What happens to failed asylum seekers?

Thousands of migrants are camped around Calais in northern France. Many will risk their lives smuggling themselves across the Channel into the UK. What happens to those that get through?
At least nine people have died trying to access the Channel Tunnel since June. Scenes of people climbing over fences and scrambling on to the back of lorries show just how desperate some people are to get to the UK. Last week a man walked most of the tunnel before being caught.
Exactly how many have made into the UK is not yet clear. But for those that have, where will they end up?

Mancham sees stars which are invisible by day

13-August-2015

As a regular contributor to your esteemed newspaper, I trust you will allow me the opportunity to thank your many readers who have extended congratulatory messages to me on the occasion of my 76th birthday on Tuesday this week (August 11).

As a matter of fact, I celebrated the day with a group of 20 friends of exiled years, representing several nationalities at a small reception which I hosted at the Villa Italia, Puerto Andraitx, Majorca. Of course, we availed of the opportunity to sing some songs that reminded us of the 'good old days', while inspiring as much optimism in the future as possible.

Of course, I also took the opportunity to once again spell out the fact that age is opportunity no less than youth, though in another dress, and as the evening twilight faded away, the sky was filled with stars invisible by day.
