Let us make this special Independence Day celebration a party to end all parties

25-April-2016
Mr BetsyThis year is a significant date in the history of Seychelles. It will be 40 years since our beautiful islands had their Independence granted and I want to celebrate this milestone with the best ever Seychellois gathering in the United Kingdom.

However, this time I want to do it differently: I want all the Seychellois diaspora to get involved so we can mark the event in style.
My website, Seychelleslife.co.uk, has hired the venue – the Paradise Banqueting Halls in West London for July 2 – now I invite everyone to pitch their ideas and support to me to ensure that we can create something magical.

I call on all Seychellois artists, musicians and caterers to join together so we have an event that people will remember for a long time to come.

Sponsorship is important too and I promise that all those who offer their support will be given full recognition and promotion both through Seychelleslife.co.uk and all event publicity.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to step forward with their personal suggestions and play an essential role in what could be the party to end all parties.

I plan for key parts of the evening to be finalised by the end of May 2016, once I know who wants to take part.
It would be fantastic to see not only established artists such as musicians, DJs, and sega dancers, sign up, but also new and up-and-coming acts. Caterers who can offer something fresh and original as well as prepare popular and traditional dishes should also feel they can be an important part of this.

We want an atmosphere where everyone, guests, organisers and performers alike, feel welcome and part of the community.
This celebration, like each one of the community events we have previously organised, is to bring together Seychellois diaspora from all over the United Kingdom and Europe.

By being in touch through such events I believe we can become stronger and more supportive of each other in the best possible way.
I want to make this not only a successful and dignified tribute to Seychelles gaining nationhood in 1976 but a great moment all Seychellois can share, so I will be in contact with Seychelles-linked organisations and communities in the UK, the Seychelles High Commission, and the Seychelles Tourism Board in Britain.

The event will take place on Saturday July 2, 2016 at the Paradise Banqueting Halls (formerly Sandson Palais and now refurbished) at 8 Cavendish Parade, Hounslow, TW4 7DJ. The nearest tube station is Hounslow West (Piccadilly Line)

This is our great moment and I know that together we can make it happen. For further details please contact me, Lewis Betsy, on 07790 269940. I look forward to hearing from you.

Let us make this special Independence Day celebration a party to end all parties Empty Independence Party success gives hope for the future of Seychelles 30th June 2014

Independence Party success gives hope for the future of Seychelles
30th June 2014

More than 230 Seychellois from all parts of the United Kingdom joined together to celebrate Seychelles 38th Independence Anniversary.
The event, held on Saturday June 28, the eve of our Independence Day anniversary, took the form of an entertainment evening hosted by Seychelles Life and the Kevin Betsy Foundation.

“I think it has been quite a while since we had a turnout of that kind. It was a very encouraging sign for the future of Seychelles and the Seychellois communities in the UK,” said Lewis Betsy of Seychelles Life.

He said his main aim for Seychelles Life is to work hard to try to get the Seychellois at home and abroad to work together for the common good of our beloved Seychelles.

“I think we did just that on that June evening. So many Seychellois travelled from all parts of the UK (and France) to have a fun-filled evening that will be remembered for many years to come,” said Mr Betsy.

He also thanked the Seychelles high commissioner in the UK, Marie-Pierre Lloyd, for attending as the guest of honour.

“She told me she had enjoyed ‘an excellent evening with many long-lost friends and acquaintances’,” Mr Betsy said.

He added he was also immensely grateful to John Davies, the publisher of the Woking News and Mail, Knaphill Print, who sponsored the event, and Jonathan Esparon for donating the £200 first prize in the raffle.

Special thanks also goes to all those who attended the event and to everyone else who made the evening such a success.

“I would particularly also like to thank for their fantastic support the UK office of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB), Samantha Ally, The Golden Shores of Seychelles, Kozkreole, Time Out Seychelles, Rita Romain, Shana Ernest, Mervin Coelho, Cascade Sega Dancers, Afrika Biz, Miss Afrique Fracophone, www.werocklondon.com, and our photographers Marlon Didon and Mike Marain,” Mr Betsy said.

He said he is already planning an even better gathering next year “because Seychelles will be celebrating with us”.

He wished all the people of Seychelles at home and abroad a happy 38 years of Independence and said hopefully next year we all can celebrate the Independence Day together.

“I believe that if we work together and if we have peace in our way of thinking we can go further,” he said.

On a more sombre note, Mr Betsy expressed concern over the increasing abuse of drugs in Seychelles and urged the local authorities to make this issue a priority.
