Tribute to the late Gerard Ah-Shung

09-June-2016
Born on January 15, 1947, Gerard Ah-Shung left us at 11:45am on June 6, 2016 at the SeychellesMr Ah-Shung Hospital. He was 69 years old.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mona, and two sons -- Paul and Emmanuel Ah-Shung.
Mr Ah-Shung, who grew up in Mont Fleuri, was appointed the electoral commissioner in 1993 and served in this position until he was replaced by Hendrick Gappy in January 1999, after completing his five-year term.
Mr Ah-Shung was the first statutory appointment in the post since the new elections under the new constitution of the Third Republic of Seychelles. He occupied several posts in the government over the years.
He was the head of the Seychelles Central Bank’s Banking Supervision Department from 1988 to 1993 and from 1983 he served as the secretary to the Board of the Central Bank until he was later offered other positions both in the government and private sector.
John Hipwaye, a close friend and a working colleague of Mr Ah-Shung, worked together for six years in external audits.
“He was a very capable man. I and many newcomers learned a lot from him when we started auditing as he was always there to lend a helping hand. He was devoted and serious when it came to his profession so although he had a long- term illness it only affected his work during the last few months he was alive,” Mr Hipwaye said.
He said anyone who knew Mr Ah-Shung can say that he was easy going, very friendly, good at heart and very generous.
“He did plenty of voluntary work that I can’t even recall but I do know at one time he was the treasurer for Credit Union, treasurer of the Seychelles Karting Association and the manager of Rangers football club,” he said.
His wife Mona said: “He was a well respected man in the government as he served them very well.”
His son Paul said he was a good father to him and his younger brother and a very devoted husband to his mother.
The funeral service will be held on Monday June 13 at 2.30pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

09-June-2016
Gerard Ah-ShungThe Seychelles Karting Association has lost its long-time treasurer, Gerard Ah-Shung, who passed away over the weekend.
Mr Ah-Shung has been the treasurer for over a decade and was active until present. He was also once the Seychelles Karting Association (SKA) chairman.
He passed away on Monday morning at the age of 69. Besides being the treasurer of the SKA, he was also once the manager of Rangers Football Club locally, and he also played hockey during his younger days.
Former SKA chairman David Rene had this to say about his former colleague: “He was very well respected among us and during his time on the committee he did a lot to help us to be able to gather and save funds for our various projects. Seychelles karting has benefitted a lot through his work for us.”
The SKA executive committee and all its members would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Ah-Shung family during these difficult times.

We have waited all day that  somebody in that  Sechelles Seychelles would come forward and just may be mumble something  over/about Mr Gerard Ah-Shung  at our Community forum have added a few links to events of 1991/93 and the setting up of the constitutional Commission - in France then President F Mitterrand and the Grand Lodge de L'orient, in Dover the Masonic Lodge, the Castle and the old Masonic lodge in Folkestone. The ongoing construction of the Channel Tunnel and those who had not wanted us to return to Seychelles and South Africa,  Nelson Mandela, Mr Giovanni MARIO RICCI the Italian masonic entity- .  In 1993,  we had started the Project of the Lord of the Rings - the coat of Arms project advanced, setting up of the FECAS- ECSVS Europe,  that SIROP program was extremely dynamic and what it was impacting and driving, politic and policy formulation - now we have a Mrs Mathilda Towmey then,  safe for those issues she may never have become a Judge this is very grave. Sir James Mancham and those setting up WANGO - much more president JA Michel publishing his book on the Blue economy those who knew Mr Gerard Ah- shung at the Central Bank and then Minister James Michel - In spite of that Program announcement and implementation Seychelles was bust - we had to single handed in Europe drive the big finance and economic thematic to get them involved in  Seychelles the question to ask have we descended so low - instead of wasting our time for 40 years we should have been shoveling  Judge EJ Stiven manure at least we would have had some money in our pocket. (when the likes of President J A Michel write that book they chose to forget their very foundation - individual like Prof Von Hayak and prof Dr Hofmann, those from l'ena we worked with at the time )
