Seychelles marks 35th anniversary of failed mercenary attack • No ceremony at Victory Monument

25-November-2016

Today is the 35th anniversary of the failed mercenary attack on Seychelles on November 25, 1981 and this year there is no wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument at the Seychelles International Airport.
Lieutenant Colonel Jean Attala of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) said this is because of ongoing construction work at the airport and the subsequent demolition of the monument which will eventually be relocated to a new site.
Given the involvement of the SPDF in thwarting the mercenary attack, the force has adopted the same date to commemorate Defence Forces Day.
As is customary, the SPDF has put together a series of activities to mark the occasion. The main activities this year include a blood donation by SPDF personnel which took place on Wednesday at the Ile Perseverance SPDF clinic, community work yesterday to spruce up the North East Point Rehabilitation Centre and the La Retraite and Union Vale homes for the elderly.
Sports activities will take place at the Coast Guard playing field as from 7.30am tomorrow and on Sunday morning personnel from all wings of the SPDF will take part in a thanksgiving mass at 9.30am at the St Roch Church at Bel Ombre.

Comment - Say thank you to/for that SIROP program people/nation,  of Judge EJ Stiven Manure. What if we had not put into place that SIROP program under then President FA Rene government. How many other attempted coup d'etat would have taken place/been undertaken.
