Wir trauern um einen großen Europäer - Dr. Alois Mock, ehemaliger Außenminister der Republik Österreich, Vater des Beitrittes Österreichs zur Europäischen Gemeinschaft und Träger des Europapreises Coudenhove-Kalergi, ist heute im 83. Lebensjahr verstorben. Mit #Paneuropa war er als langjähriger Präsident der Europagesellschaft Coudenhove-Kalergi verbunden.
Am 27. Juni durchschnitt er mit dem ungarischen Amtskollegen Gyula Horn den Stachdeldraht zwischen Ungarn und Österreich - ein Schritt, der zum Fall des Eisernen Vorhanges und Ostblocks beitrug und hunderttausenden Menschen die Freiheit brachte.
1989 überreichte Dr. Mock offiziell den Antrag zum EG-beitritt und schloss 1994 die Verhandlungen erfolgreich ab.
1991 drängte er auf rasche Anerkennung der ehemaligen jugoslawischen Teilrepubliken Kroatien und Slowenien und engagierte sich für humanitäre Hilfen im ehemaligen Jugoslawien.
1993 leitete er als Außenminister die Menschenrechtskonferenz der UNO in Wien, bei der die Unteilbarkeit der Menschenrechte weltweit festgelegt wurde.
