• R1.1 billion invested and 500 jobs created
The New Mauritius Hotels Group (NMH), owner of the hotel on Sainte Anne island, has unveiled details of a major redevelopment plan for the resort.
After the closing down of its operations in September, the relaunch of its activities is scheduled for the end of 2019.
Works are expected to start during the second quarter of next year and will cost R1.1 billion (70m Euros). The resort will then be managed by the international famously-known French hotel group Club Med.
According to a press release from NMH, an agreement was signed last week with the French company for the redevelopment and subsequent rental of Saint Anne Resort in Seychelles. The NMH owns 100% of the shares of Sainte Anne Resort Ltd. Once redeveloped, the resort will be rented to Club Med for an initial term of 12 years.
The 87-room resort on Sainte Anne, which has been operated by NMH over the past 15 years, will be therefore refurbished and extended as per Club Med’s five-star standards and requirements and will comprise a total of 295 rooms.
This investment will also have a very positive bearing on the human resource side for the hotel industry in Seychelles. Actually 500 new jobs will be made available.
“This new initiative of our group is yet another marked testimony of our continued and flawless belief in the Seychelles tourism industry,” Jean-Louis Pismont, NMH International Operations manager said.
“We want to bring the resort at Sainte Anne to the next level to upgrade the offer of the destination. We are proud to be linked with the arrival of the first major French hotel group to Seychelles. Club Med is a reputable and worldwide hotel brand which will definitely contribute to increase the visibility of Seychelles. We are more so happy that this project will more than double the job offers with an increasing number of Seychellois workers having the opportunity to work and progress within the international framework of Club Med,” he added.
The announcement of the redevelopment of Sainte Anne Resort follows a successful agreement reached in September last with the personnel for the implementation of a redundancy package.
