An earthquake measuring 5.8m on the Richter scale was reported yesterday morning (at 9.33am local time) 390 kilometres north-east of Rodrigues island, Mauritius.
A communiqué from the National Meteorological Services of the department of environment and energy says that the earthquake was at a depth of 9.8 kilometres.
The communiqué adds that no wave or tremor was felt as reported by any of the designated tsunami warning centers in the Indian Ocean region and no alerts were issued.
The National Meteorological Services wishes to inform the general public that no tsunami was generated, hence no threat exists to Seychelles.
The communiqué adds that the National Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the situation and will update the public of any phenomenon that develops.
