Seychelles wins prestigious award at World Routes 2012
Seychelles has won the award for best destination marketing campaign by a tourism board.
Tourism and Culture Minister Alain St Ange accepted the award during the World Routes forum held in Abu Dhabi from September 29-October 2.
Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) chief executive Elsia Grandcourt, senior marketing executive Amy Michel, tourism consultant Glynn Burridge, and Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority chairman captain David Savy, also formed part of the Seychelles delegation who witnessed the collection of the coveted tourism prize in recognition of STB’s excellent track record in recognising the importance of the golden triangular approach of airlines, aviation authorities and tourism boards in advancing tourism.
Seychelles was also recognised for its innovative marketing and public relations approach.
Seychelles is continually referenced for having promoted and hosted the Routes Africa aviation forum from July 8-10, breaking all existing records for a Routes Africa event.
Routes, which is considered to be the premier forum for aviation route development in the world, grants awards to airlines, aviation and tourism authorities in recognition for their roles in advancing the cause of aviation connectivity in the world.
Seychelles has been awarded the prize in preference over five other shortlisted tourism boards including Greece, Aruba and the Philippines at the world Routes networking gala dinner that took place at the Yas Marina Circuit before some 2,700 invited guests.
Master of ceremonies Ali Alsaloum spoke of the many representatives of the community of nations speaking a common “language of respect” in supporting the interests of international aviation and in collaborating effectively towards that end.
“This is a vindication of the hard work, dedication and team spirit which routinely goes into the way we conduct our international marketing campaigns. We are proud to accept this award on behalf of the entire country,” said Minister St Ange.
