Seychelles has officially obtained an extension of a total area of 14,840 square kilometres to its continental shelf.
The area consists of seabed and subsoil about 92 times the size of Mahé including its surrounding reclamations that can be explored for potential natural resources.
It was on August 31 this year that Seychelles officially received the confirmation through its permanent mission to the UN in New York that it has been successfully granted the extension to its continental shelf.
Vice-President Vincent Meriton announced Seychelles’ success officially to the press yesterday morning at State House in the presence of the high level local technical negotiating team made up of public and private sector stakeholders chaired by Colonel Michael Rosette.
Members of the team through a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the area in question.
