New attorney at law sworn in

George Robert is the country’s newest attorney at law. He took his oath before acting Chief Justice  D. Karunakaran with lawyers David Esparon and Basil Hoareau as his witnesses.

Also present at the ceremony, which took place in the Chief Justice chamber at the Palais de Justice on Ile du Port, were Attorney General Ronny Govinden and Mr Robert’s family.

To affirm his oath Mr Robert signed a document along with Judge Karunakaran and his two witnesses.

“Ever since I was 17 I wanted and decided to be a lawyer. I have always dreamt that I would be standing here,” Mr Robert said.

Mr Robert was already practicing law in Australia and with his swearing in he will be allowed to practice law in Seychelles.

“As Australia is a Commonwealth country, I hope that I can use the experiences I gained there about their aspect of law to carry out my work here,” he added.
Judge Karunakaran took the opportunity to congratulate Mr Robert and wished him the best of luck in his career.
