During the first half of the nineteenth century, almost - non-white convicts were transported from Mauritius to Australia. Most convicts were transported after when New South Wales and Van Diemen’s Land were formally opened up as destinations for Mauritian offenders. Before that date all male convicts were sent to off the Cape, with a handful of female convicts transported to New South Wales. After Van Diemen’s Land became the favoured destination. Both New South Wales and Van Diemen’s Land were closed off to the reception of Mauritian convicts in
