Stakeholders learn how to develop sustainable development projects

Local stakeholders and representatives of youth bodies promoting sustainable development, earlier this week took part in a forum during which they learned to develop related projects.
The forum was organised by the Inspired Generations (IG) programme which aims to engage university students and other young people in sustainable development of their country or region.
During this week’s forum which is a follow-up to two previous ones held in October 2014 and April this year, the Seychelles Sustainable Development Committee was officially set up and will soon start work on a five-year action plan.
The committee aims to better promote sustainable development by developing projects which would be submitted for funding during the IG’s sustainable development conference to be held in Mauritius in October.
The IG programme, developed by the Youth for Sustainable Development Foundation (YSDF) and carried out by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOG) through its ISLANDS project is funded by the European Union.
This week’s forum was held at Care House and it was led by the Inspired Generation Coordinator for the Indian Ocean Cedric Van Riel and the opening ceremony was attended by the principal secretary for environment Alain Decommarmond.
He pointed out in his opening remarks that Seychelles has done a lot to support sustainable development campaign initiatives both locally and internationally by imparting new ideas.
“There are many ongoing activities and processes at this present time in our country to better guide our development in a sustainable manner, for example we are presently carrying out our 3rd management plan. The Sustainable Development Strategy 2010-2012, a couple of months ago we completed a major exercise on how to plan our land usage for the next 25 years…A couple of weeks ago we launched our Second National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan 2015-2020,” he pointed out.
