New music stadium to be ready soon

Soon our local artists will have a proper venue to stage shows now that work is almost complete on a new music stadium being built at English River, opposite the Krishna Mart supermarket.
For the past ten years our local artists have been demanding to have a new music stadium for them to better express themselves.
Yesterday afternoon, a delegation comprising the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, the principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, the principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, the chief executive (CEO) of the National Arts Council (Nac) Jimmy Savy, among other high officials visited the site to see for themselves progress that has been done since the first stone was laid in October last year.
Minister St Ange pointed out that our local artists need a place to express themselves.
“Our local artists will be able to express themselves in this new music stadium, which will become a reality soon. Today it was important for us to visit the project which we have promised the artist community in Seychelles,” he said.
He added that the stadium will host live shows from both our local as well as international artists.
“This new music stadium will take at least 15,000 people and the stage will be completed by the end of December. We will also build a sound proof wall around the stage to control noises. The project will cost around R14 million,” Minister St Ange said.
The new music stadium will also have a restaurant, a place for artists to change and the stage will face the ocean to minimise noise pollution.
CEO Savy noted that the project is going as planned, although there have been a few challenges along the way.
“It is the first time that Seychelles will have a music stadium this big, so we are learning through this process on how to better undertake the project. After this visit, we will have another meeting so that we can discuss some other issues such as installation of electricity, among others,” he stated.
Local artist Patrick Victor, who also formed part of the ministerial delegation, said he is satisfied with the project and hopes that in a few months artist will be able to perform live on this stage.
