We have added a picture of Charles Routier de Romainville, born in 1742 - died in 1818 l’ancien lieutenant de larme francaise, cartographer, governor considere comme le pere fondateur de notre capitale. ( Those who have damaged the link at our portal project)

Though one may not have the financial means to travel and visit some of the former colonies the French, Portuguese, Dutch, German and Britain founded – there are reasonably good and serious documentary TV programs which tell of the history, issues, politic, Christian and other spiritual values involved in such discovery and exploration and indeed the challenge of risking one life, friends in search of new land, colony, settling them and making them economically viable.

Sechelles – Seychelles unlike Mauritius, Reunion have had a very turbulent 150 years or so. In our case those who believed in suppressing any or most form of French royal later Napoleonic and Republic heritage. The colonial power that ruled over us.

In ancient times and across the centuries this have been the practice – you go to war defeat a nation, you take over their wealth, political role, their position, destroy most of their leadership, subdue or turn the rest into slavery or the such. But most important you destroy or suppress their identity, their heritage, culture and belief.

When one studies and look at the architecture, colonial buildings and monuments in Mauritius, Reunion – then when one come to Sechelles – Seychelles the contrast. Two orther important issues come to mind, the more important colonial building – architecture, the church or cathedrals and the monuments.

In time gone by the belief in Europe, the ethical and spiritual ensemble of architecture and its/their purpose. Those who studied and took part in building some of the great public buildings which today impress us – those from all belief and walk of life. The vision, imagination, process to think out the very many complex geometry – mathematics – scientific logics for such construction. Most important the epoch/era of time, the influence of the arts and music. In instance the political message behind or involved in such construction.

The question we ask and indeed our children may ask of us – specially those who have been sent to Europe and other countries to study architecture. In Seychelles we have very little or nearly none, safe for the architectural concept of colonial architecture – what it meant then and its meaning to our generation and the future.

Having said that Seychelles have gone through a political process unlike Mauritius and Reunion. We have simple forum visitors, who may feel we are talking above their heads. We were all brought up by our grand parents i.e. that we do not come form Jupiter or Mars – build, buildings or house that two or three generation would be living in them or inherit them. The very complex family feelings, belief, concept of construction, need to make use of material – resource and money related. Being human, the political or social message being imparted. How those of us have come to cherish the old homes our great grand parents build and we have inherited them.

How many recall in moment of one life be it through political, personal, religious , social turmoil part , aspect or the whole building and its architecture have lend their support, they have been of comfort, they have prevented one from caving in so to say – even the idea of throwing everything away – the building we have been entrusted or inherited talking to us. ( During the 15 years of one party state is one had dared to write such an article or such issue one just do not know what would have happen – the outcome, You just did not talk or write about such issues in public let alone discuss it in private or family)

The visitors and travellers to Seychelles or those who have come across the Seychelles man, woman in Europe and other parts of the world – their view and judgement of his - their personality – strongly influenced by the architecture of their ancestors and grand parents. ( We also address those ho have studied or travelled and understand some of the complex issues of architecture how they influence a people and nation)

Until a few years ago Seychelles, like Mauritius we were nation in the Indian ocean and since the forming of African Union this concept has drastically changed we are nation of the Indian ocean put part of African Union. The very complex and complicated institutions being develop and set in place in African Union to manage and embrace such issues from the diverse cultures and colonial powers. Most important their political legacy, impact and vehicle to educate a nation , individual or group of people in a particular political thinking or direction.

We from EU be it Britain and other EU capitals, Towns and village look and studied with wonder and for some great deal of nostalgia and remorse the picture of the Father founder of the capital of Seychelles – the L'establisement due Rois. Many of us who are ill informed and not so educated lampoon, mock and snub the ideas, endeavours, efforts, in instance the blood, sweat, sacrifices, the near extinction or other terrible human and abnormal situation those who have endeavoured to undertake such steps and journey went through. Indeed we and those who laugh and mock at the name given to a nation and their capital, Town and villages.

There is a need here and specially today to understand in greater depth the thinking and purpose of such undertaking. Too long those who made cheap politic through books, literature, political dogmas, or propagandas – have had their says and presented their view and judgement of such great historic – human undertakings.

Life in France or Europe then, social conciousness, political events, economy, the warring philosophy, most important the religious and spiritual side/aspect.

Other nations have taken and spent a great deal of time and energy to explain some of these issues and events in the case of Sechelles – Seychelles very little, the Mauritian and Reunion nations have done better.

There is a need for our generation and some of those who wish to take certain responsibilities to understand the greater issues involved and at play. Unlike the former European people or their ancestors the strength of spiritual and religious belief – the pivotal role it played in their lives and daily thinking, their politic, culture, arts and even going to war. No dough there exist a great deal written by French individuals or descendent of French royal families, nobilities, church leaders, great politicians, generals and discoveries and scientist – in relation to Sechelles – Seychelles very little.

Until the defeat of France and Bonaparte – those three nation of the Indian Ocean Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles the kind of life, belief, politic, arts, culture, values and tradition which existed and had existed.

When we compare our generation, our children the politic, the social issues, the religious, the arts, the cinema, the fashion and very many other issues which influence them to design something or take part in a process. Then their education, where they were educated

We believe there is a need to understand in greater depth those who started the colonies of Sechelles - ,Seychelles Islands, the political reason and military they named those Islands. The politic behind and reason the name of L'establisement du Rois was so chosen. For anybody or traveller to our part of the world and nation if in Tourist brochure suddenly they say instead of Seychelles – L'establisement du Rois very many heads would have so to say turn.

With those who came to start those colonies were priest – it would have been absolutely unthinkable and foreseeable that the King, the monarch or those financing such great and risky exploration, discoveries would not have insisted that the church, God the almighty give or lend it blessings and approval. Including the naming of a Town, city or village.

In the case of Sechelles – Seychelles what was the spiritual state of France at the time. The royal families, the nobilities, those who served France.

Most important in the religious and spiritual debacle – the spiritual battle which had been raging in France and continental Europe. Avignon was considered the abode of Christ in the world not Rome and the politic, powers of those who were involved and associated. Then Italy.

During the 150 years of British colonial rule how this influence the descendents, the generation of those who founded L'establisement due Rois and naming of the many Islands. Very little have been written and researched. So much for UNESCO support, purpose and belief – those who have used UNESCO for their own political interest and belief.

Another very important aspect of those, the priest who travelled, stood by, being God, witness, or the mother land France and it faiths belief in such great moment were priest of the Capucin Order and others – they were mostly based in Switzerland. The impact they have played and had on Sechelles – Seychelles religious, social, political, educational, intellectual, the arts from then on – the uniqueness of Seychelles in this term. Those who were educated by them and they in turn educated us – passed on what they had acquired to us. Sometime when we hear accusation of those mad Seychellois – somebody ought to remind them they are equally saying those made Christian priests too.

In all the above we have overlooked the notion of the Seychelles understanding and practice of law and justice. They were there before the British arrived and the justice, judicial system in France then and today - this again importantly bound to the belief , the church and other spiritual issues.

When we look at those two personalities standing by the very large picture and the Ministers, dignitaries, VIP and diplomats gazing, gaping or simply wandering – what the purpose of such a project. Then the impact on the mid of the populace, of all walk of life. The political parties. The media, the children, the elderly

We live in a time and world of sophistication and our computer and IT. We believe this is the ultimate frontier and the science with it, the possibilities. Given the lapses or events for the past 25 years or 30 years related to computer – IT and there by a different level of understanding or weight paid or given to religion in life, society, politic, economy and many other issues. We have a duty to ask our self where we have started, the journey we have made and the future in front of us and our children.

One thing for certain if that picture could talk. It took the combine ancestral values and heritage of Sechelles – Seychelles to change the one party state and return us to multi party politic. We – the world is living on the brink of destroying itself and everything our ancestors have build, strived for and cherish. The very crucial question we have to ask and indeed our children ask of us – how strong is the values those that founded L'establisement du Rois and implanted us the 5/6 generation in Seychelles and the world – our role in the region, African Union and the world.

Via our Seychelles EU connection portal project some of the very complex issues we have addressed have caught and begin to catch the attention of the world. In France, Canada, Quebec, the USA and other parts of the world the families and descendents of the de Romainville. Are there any research, project, blogs, documents available for the French great libraries on the subjects and associate subjects.

Once again we are using the facilities loaned to us and that do not lend to to superbly qualitative thinking and writing.
