A dedicated and long-serving public servant, 70-year-old Sheila Banks née Ah-Koon, passed away on Tuesday, June 26 following a long illness.

The deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Afif, made the announcement yesterday noting that Mrs Banks was the first person to serve as clerk of the National Assembly after the introduction of multi-party democracy, a post she held from 1993 to 2005.

According to Mrs Banks’ sister, Celine Saurer, Mrs Banks also held various other positions in public service such as in the court and in the department of education.
