Sechelles Seychelles National Day 18/6/13

We have added four pictures on this National Day and it is yet again not just any Event. 

We read this morning that President JA Michel is to allow pubs in Seychelles - in Old Seychelles we had what was known/called "La Kanbiz" where then Mr James Alix Michel lived across the Denouse property and other was such a place. They crushed cane and allowed it to ferment and soled it under regulated manner. I/we would not have minded a glass this morning with the heart ache we have about the situation at Home/Seychelles. We did not say red wine or beer. 

The first picture is a about what was called a Curia in Roman time and their functions - Wikipedia explanation. We are going to add a wikipedia link which explain the purpose and function of a Senate - that in Seychelles including Sir James Mancham, Mr Robert Frichot and eventually Mr Phillipe Boulle who judge we ought not to have such a two tier Parliament system a Senate and People Assembly - how both are elected and function and role in many Democracy and former communist countries today and they are working. 

The next step for Seychelles is for the Oppositions - particularly Mr Ralph Volcer, Hon Wavel, Mr Christopher Gill, the NGO, the Muslim, the Indain, the Chinese and European community to press President JA Michel his SPPF/PL government with the involvement of the International community and regional bodies - that he allow the setting up of a Senate - two tier Legislature in Seychelles - even Zimbabwe have such a system. 

This said, now that the Palais de Justice has moved that building could be refurbished to house a Senate. We trust is will not be the same debacle like the Stock Exchange, it had been earmarked to be set up in the Old Secretariat or the Valabjhi building by NOVO Bank it landed on Eden Island. 

This Day 18/6/13 had it not been for that SIROP combined exile/refuge program there would not have been a National Day - may be some other date. 

We have also noted the Fair - the popularity and importance particularly the business. Business people are trained to think critically - how Seychelles was until 1987 and events - impacts of the combined SIROP on their business, bank account and private lives - if the say otherwise then little wonder when just about any/every criminal want to rob then and hack their bank accounts. 

We request /ask all those who care remember all those fallen in Europe and across the world who fought, gave their lives and suffer, pain - that you in Sechelles Seychelles will be free and enjoy the degree of Freedom you have. Those who choose to forget it their proper place is in a Pub and Mr Ralph Volcer, the Hopper Family, Mr Dan Payet family from England - Mr Peter Payet and Mr Ben Choppy know all about it.

Japanese commander of multi-national force calls on VP Faure

Rear Admiral Hiroshi Ito, Commander of the Japan Maritime Defence Force, who recently began leading the Combined Task Force (CTF) 151 off the Horn of Africa, yesterday called on Vice-President Danny Faure at State House.

Speaking to the press after his meeting with VP Faure, Commander Ito said it was an opportunity to discuss issues related to counter piracy in the region, the Gulf of Aden and off the coast of Somalia.

Noting that the mandate of the EU (European Union) and Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) forces in the region are expected to end in December 2016, he discussed the issue as well with VP Faure.

“I had a very fruitful discussion with Vice-President Faure and we discussed the way forward for our operation for the coming years since the EU and Nato forces’ mandate are expected to end in December 2016 .We exchange our views and concern on what will happen beyond 2016,” Commander Ito said.

As it is the first time that Japan takes command of a multi-national force in the post-war period, Commander Ito said it is an important moment for Japan and a great opportunity for him.

He added that he has under his command, apart from fellow Japanese servicemen, officers of different nationalities and he is happy as he is receiving their full support so that he can discharge his responsibilities very well.

While CTF 151 has counter piracy as its mission, Commander Ito said he is focusing his attention on maintaining the number of ships and aircraft in the force to patrol the area in the Gulf of Aden and off the coast of Somalia.

But the commander noted that the CTF 151 also collaborates with the shipping sector, helping and keeping a watchful eye on merchant vessels which cross the region.

In addition to its new responsibility to command the CTF 151, Japan has a counter-piracy base in Djibouti, used by two aircraft (P3-C Orion) and two destroyer vessels under the Japan Maritime Defence Force.

Seychelles and Japan also concluded a transfer of suspected pirates agreement in December 2014.

Seychelles embassy in Addis Ababa celebrates National Day with local diplomatic community

The embassy of the Republic of Seychelles in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has celebrated the Seychelles National Day for the first time since the establishment of the embassy in August 2012.
The celebration was in the form of a cocktail reception held at the Radisson Blu in the Ethiopian capital.

Guests at the event comprised fellow diplomatic missions and representatives from the African Union and the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia among others.

Toasting to the future of Seychelles’ engagement with Africa and the African Union (AU), the Seychelles permanent representative to the AU and resident ambassador to Ethiopia, Joseph Nourrice, spoke of the foreign policy ambitions of the government of Seychelles.

“Our priorities for the future is to be part of the transformative wave of change that is blowing over Africa and transforming our continent into a vibrant, diverse and prosperous entity where our young people can benefit from meaningful livelihoods and our women can take their rightful place at the forefront of this change,” he said.

Ambassador Nourrice spoke of Seychelles’ commitment to people centred development.
“Today is also a historic day, in that this is our first National Day celebration since the establishment of the embassy in Addis Ababa two and a half years ago. Seychelles was in fact the last of the 54 member states to establish a resident mission here. Yes, we were late but now that we are here, we mean business.

“We will continue to work to bring meaningful contributions towards the African Agenda.

“As Africa’s smallest state, Seychelles under the leadership of President James Michel who successfully championed the Seychelles economic reforms of the recent past, has set itself lofty goals.
“We espouse a strong belief in people centred development as being central to our vision and one to make Africa proud, by being part of its transformation.”

The ambassador also spoke of the strong ties between Seychelles and Ethiopia as a friendship that is continually growing with new and varied engagements planned for the future.
Before concluding his remarks the Seychelles ambassador also drew attention to the strengths of island states and their inherent vulnerabilities.

“It is no coincidence that we, as an island state, were the last to set up our mission here in Addis, and that the two other member states that are hoping to return here very soon are our sister islands, Cabo Verde and Sao Tome & Principe.

“Our Pan African organisation will not be complete without them in our midst.”

With regard to Seychelles’ bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador Nourrice made the point that Seychelles is still in consultations at the level of the East Africa Group in Addis and that a decision would be forthcoming in the months to come.
