Sonia Gandhi tente de sauver la campagne du Congrès en Inde


Cette intervention de trois minutes sur les chaînes de télévision en hindi a été diffusée lundi soir à une heure de grande écoute alors qu'un sondage a pour la première fois prédit une majorité absolue à la coalition emmenée par les nationalistes du Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"Leur vision, assombrie par la haine et le mensonge, leur idéologie, porteuse de divisions et autocratique, nous conduira à (...) la perte", a déclaré Sonia Gandhi, veuve de l'ancien Premier ministre Rajiv Gandhi.

Assise devant une bibliothèque, la présidente du Parti du Congrès, Italienne de naissance, n'a pas cité le nom de Narendra Modi, le candidat du BJP au poste de Premier ministre.

Son propos visait toutefois directement le nationalisme hindou porté par son adversaire, qui, à ses yeux, menace la paix sociale entre les diverses communautés de la société indienne, forte de 1,2 milliard d'habitants. Elle a aussi critiqué le style de la campagne du BJP, qui met davantage en avant son candidat que son programme.

"C'est cela, le coeur et l'âme même de l'Inde, pour lequels nous nous battons dans cette élection afin de les protéger contre ceux qui tentent de les modifier et de nous diviser", a poursuivi Sonia Gandhi, dont le fils Rahul a eu du mal à donner du souffle à la campagne du Parti du Congrès. "Ils veulent imposer l'uniformité. Ils disent: 'Croyez-moi, c'est tout'."

Le BJP a dénoncé un "discours d'adieu prononcé en désespoir".

Les élections législatives ont débuté le 7 avril et les opérations de vote sont étalées sur cinq semaines.

Seychelles warmly welcomes Indian PM

The Prime Minister of India His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles last night onboard an Air India flight on a one-day official visit to the country.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of Indian dignitaries.

Prime Minister Modi was met on arrival at the Seychelles International Airport by the President of the Republic, James Michel. Also present were Vice-President Danny Faure, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan and other high government officials.


Seychelles is the first stop of Prime Minister Modi’s three-nation Indian Ocean tour which will also take in Mauritius and Sri Lanka.

After welcoming him to the Seychelles, President Michel introduced Prime Minister Modi to members of the Seychelles government.


The prime minister then greeted Indian nationals gathered at the airport to welcome him.

Historic ties shared between the two nations will be strengthened and new avenues of cooperation will also be explored during his visit here.

This morning he will hold bilateral discussions with President James Michel to strengthen maritime ties and enhance bilateral development cooperation.

Several agreements are also set to be inked between the two countries during the visit. They represent defence and security cooperation, renewable energy and maritime cooperation.

PM Modi will also make a public address at the Palais des Sports in Roche Caïman later today where more than 3,000 people are expected to attend.

PM Modi leaves Seychelles this afternoon for Mauritius, the next destination of his Indian Ocean tour.

Seychelles and India established diplomatic relations on June 29, 1976 and PM Modi is the second Indian prime minister to visit Seychelles after Indira Gandhi's visit in 1981.

India's bilateral cooperation with Seychelles is mainly in the field of health, education, defence and maritime security.

Le Premier ministre indien est arrivé ce mercredi11 mars, pour une visite d’un peu plus de 24 heures dans notre île, qu’il surnomme affectueusement «Chhota Bharat» («Petite Inde», Ndlr). Mais l’enjeu dépasse le cadre de la tradition.

«Ma visite dans trois Etats de l’océan Indien reflète les priorités de la politique extérieure dans le voisinage immédiat et lointain de l’Inde. L’Inde attache une haute importance au renforcement des relations avec la région, ce qui est vital pour sa sécurité et son progrès», a affirmé Narendra Modi dans un communiqué publié avant son départ.

Le symbole est fort pour Maurice, d’autant plus que les relations entre les deux Etats ont pris une dimension économique, voire géostratégique. «D’Indira Gandhi à Narendra Modi, tous les chefs d’Etat indiens ont visité Maurice à un moment ou un autre. Il y a trente ans, les relations étaient plutôt sentimentales, mais il y a aujourd’hui une dimension économique», souligne le rédacteur en chef de l’express, Raj Meetarbhan, dans un débat organisé par LSL Radio.

Indian Prime Minister, His Excellency Narendra Modi and his delegation were warmly welcomed at State House yesterday morning by President James Michel, Vice-President Danny Faure, several ministers and other government and military officials.

PM Modi then signed the visitor’s book before having a short tête-à-tête discussion with President Michel. This was followed by a bilateral meeting between the two leaders and their delegations.

In his welcoming address President Michel said we are greatly honoured by this 2nd Prime Ministerial visit since India and Seychelles established diplomatic relations in June 1976.

I would like to add my voice to those thousands in Seychelles who have today extended a hearty welcome to the Hon. Shri Narendra Modi, not only because he is Prime Minister of India but also because he represents “the largest democratic country” in the world.

Nostalgy may not be what it used to be but please allow me to share 3 photographs from my collection – (i) depicting Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and myself standing to attention as the National Anthem of both Nations were being played (ii) depicting me escorting Prime Minister Gandhi to the VIP Lounge and (iii) showing me in a one-to-one discussion with the late Prime Minister at her office in New Delhi. Certainly

Dans un message à la nation incisif en trois volets majeurs pour marquer le 47 e anniversaire de l’indépendance et le 23e de la République, diffusé en fin de journée du 12 mars, le Premier ministre, Sir Anerood, a exprimé la détermination du gouvernement Lepep, en fonctions depuis 96 jours, de poursuivre le nettoyage du pays et de faire du « nouveau destin avek lepep » un véritable acte de foi. Pendant sept minutes, il balisé l’importance des relations entre l’Inde et Maurice, commenté les mesures de nettoyage après les neuf ans du gouvernement travailliste et faire état des bases du deuxième miracle économique avec le prochain budget, qui sera présenté dans 11 jours.

Comment - It is very very tragic for a high personality like PM Arnaud Jugnauth, the PM when we wrote that SIROP program, the many attempts to change then Sechelles Seychelles by military option. Our exile/refugee global workings. Including his time as President of Mauritius what he must know and have known of our workings.

All the expectation was that the Coalition of Dr Navin Ramgolam and Mr Paul Beranger was going to win - we know of issues we just do not share with the pubic.

Those two visit we undertook in Strasbourg 2014 changed, influenced the many dynamic of Mauritius and the election - on this day his addressing the Nation and overlooking and forgetting this very important facts - in the old days would would have said may the earth swallow hi him for ignoring and forgetting this. Or may the very place he stand upon shake underneath him.

If/when society/nation do not respect such very important workings, mechanism - that is when other far complicated mechanism is brought into the equitation and then those who mismanage them and the results/consequences.

Just as the Mauritius many Policing Authorities have raided the place of Dr Ramgolam they must ask PM Jugnauth to answer report about this situation.

Le 12 mars est une date aussi importante et symbolique pour Maurice qu'elle l'est pour l'Inde. Ce du fait que si Maurice célèbre l'anniversaire de son accession à l'indépendance, l'Inde commémore elle, les premiers pas de la longue marche de Gandhi. C'est ce qu'a souligné le Premier ministre indien lors de son discours à la Civic réception organisée par les ministères des TIC et des infrastructures publiques en collaboration avec celui des Arts et de la culture et du Mahatma Gandhi Institute. En dépit de la pluie qui a joué aux troubles-fête , Narebdra Modi a pu se recueillir devant la statue de mahatma Gandhi a moka. Il a ensuite fait un long discours entièrement en hindi devant la grande assistance venue l'écouter des quatre coins de Maurice. Rendant grâce à Maurice pour l'avoir fait l'un des siens, Narendra Modi a aussi rendu hommage aux ancêtres indiens qui sont venus à Maurice en tant que laboureurs et qui ont contribué à créer le paradis que nous sommes. Il a fait ressortir que si auparavant l'Inde n'était pas connu, aujourd'hui le monde ne regarde plus l'Inde car c'est l'Inde qui représente désormais les yeux du monde. Il a profité de l'occasion pour parler de l'importance des valeurs et de l'importance de savoir les préserver. Dans le sillage il a parlé du changement climatique et de la nécessité de préserver notre environnement .
Il a aussi parlé de l'ère digitale et de l'importance que la connexion soit apportée egalement aux plus pauvres.

Letter to the Editor - Political situation in the Indian Ocean calls for ‘careful navigation’

Thank you for publishing my letter welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Seychelles and publishing the three photos I sent you concerning the visit of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1976. I believe that your title “Nostalgy may not be what it used to be” was appropriate and underlined the great changes in Indian politics over recent years concerning the Indian Ocean.

In 1976, India was an active proponent of the politics of ‘Indian Ocean Zone of Peace’ alongside the former Soviet Union – and openly opposed the U.S. base in the Chagos archipelago. Today India is online with the U.S.A. There is no more any criticism or outcry levied about the U.S. base in Diego Garcia. In fact, the U.S.A. would like to see India playing a major naval and military role in the zone - all this change due to the ever-growing and active interest and influence which China is having in this area.

It is interesting to note that most of Prime Minister Modi’s assistance to Seychelles has a quasi military dimension – Dornier aircraft; coast surveillance; radar system; hydrographic survey and the development of an SPDF base on the island of Assumption. There are indeed a lot of rooms for thoughts if we wish to avoid ourselves being caught in the web of Indo-Chinese ambition and rivalry.

There are certainly a lot of cross-currents around and therefore the need for careful navigation if Seychelles’ sovereignty and national interest is not to be impaired.
