Dominique Strauss-Kahn hatte einen angekratzten Ruf, aber einzigartige Verbindungen. Thierry Leyne hatte über Jahre kaum beachtet Deals eingefädelt und war begierig darauf, in die erste Liga der Finanzwelt aufzusteigen.

Beide trafen sich, kurz nachdem Strauss-Kahn im Mai 2011 seinen Posten als Direktor des Internationalen Währungsfonds nach Vergewaltigungsvorwürfen aufgegeben hatte. Sie gründeten den Finanzdienstleister Leyne, Strauss-Kahn & Partners und begannen damit, 2 Milliarden US-Dollar für einen Hedgefonds einzusammeln. Doch ihr Projekt endete in einer Tragödie.

Im Oktober beging der 49-jährige Leyne offenbar Selbstmord; er stürzte in Tel Aviv aus einem Luxus-Hochhaus. In den Tagen darauf erklärte der Verwaltungsrat von LSK, man habe Beweise gefunden, die „die Zukunft der Firma, deren Kredit irreparabel beschädigt ist, in Frage stellen“. Das Unternehmen wurde mittlerweile in Luxemburg für bankrott erklärt. Der Insolvenzverwalter wollte keinen Kommentar abgeben.
