The new ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Seychelles, Mette Knudsen, has said her country’s main areas of cooperation with the Republic of Seychelles lie in the maritime field.
She cited as examples the fight against piracy where maritime vessels from her country have been visiting the Seychelles regularly.
Other areas of cooperation are in the East African Standby Force (EASF) where Denmark is handling the donor group and in renewable energy where Denmark can offer the necessary expertise Seychelles may need in its renewable energy projects.
She also announced that Denmark is to provide the Seychelles Coast Guards with small vessels which will be handed over during this year.
Ms Knudsen was speaking to the press after presenting her credentials to President James Michel at State House as Denmark’s new ambassador to the Seychelles.
The ambassador said both countries have developed close cooperation in the maritime domain, especially in the fight against piracy which she described as a big challenge for both Denmark and Seychelles.
“One good thing that has come out of the challenge is that we have developed cooperation in the maritime field where maritime vessels have been visiting here regularly as well as aircraft. We have decided to support the Seychelles Coast Guards with a number of small vessels which will be handed over during this year,” said Ambassador Knudsen.
With regard to the EASF which Seychelles is heading, Ms Knudsen said as partnership Denmark, through its embassy in Nairobi, is handling the donor group and friends of the EASF.
She hailed the growth of the Seychelles economy and said she will see how to attract more Danish visitors to Seychelles.
Ms Knudsen also expressed the wish for companies in Seychelles to show interest in the technologies available in Denmark.
Referring to the renewable energy sector which she said Seychelles will invest in in the coming years, Ambassador Knudsen encouraged Seychellois to look towards Denmark for expertise as her country has a lot of experience in that area.
