Seychelles hosts Unesco regional TVET forum

Over 60 delegates from Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean specialised in technical vocational education training (TVET) are taking part in a regional Dr Hoareau addressing delegates at the opening of the forum yesterdayforum on youth skills for work and entrepreneurship.
Aiming to bringing TVET to a higher level, the principal objective of the forum is to identify and share potential promising practices and successful innovations in skills development programmes for youth in the region including addressing key issues such as unemployment, migration and marginalisation.
Discussions will be on fostering youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, promoting equity and gender equality and facilitating the transition to green economies and sustainable societies.
TVET is a vocational training programme for young adolescents in schools or those already in employment whereby they are trained or retrained to upgrade their skills for specific jobs of their choice on demand in the country.
Organised every two years by SADC (Southern African Development Community), Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and UNEVOC, this three-day forum which started yesterday morning, has been organised by the Unesco regional office for Eastern Africa and the UNEVOC in collaboration with the Seychelles National Commission for Unesco. It is being held at the AVANI Seychelles Resort & Spa at Barbarons.
