Allocation of land and houses - New point system to come into force next month
07-March-2017
As from next month all applications for land and housing provided by government will go through an allocation point system with the aim of bringing more fairness and transparency in the allocation process.
The Land & Housing Point System which was commissioned three years ago and developed by a local consultant, has gone through various stages which required meetings and discussions with different stakeholders including technicians of the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, housing/land officers, social workers and district administrators, among others. It was validated by the National Bureau of Statistics and University of Seychelles.

SPF reacts to articles in Lavwa Lalyans
SPF reacts to articles in Lavwa Lalyans
07-March-2017
The Seychelles Pension Fund (SPF) has reacted to two articles related to the Fund published in the newspaper Lalwa Lalyans, saying that they are “misinforming the general public”.
In a communiqué, the SPF writes:
“The Seychelles Pension Fund (SPF) is refuting the misleading articles made in the last two editions of Lavwa Lalyans newspaper entitled ‘What will happen to Pension Fund Hotel?’ citing a hotel being built at Pirates Arms and the article on the State-of-the-nation address where it was reported that SPF takes loans for its projects. SPF believes both the articles are misinforming the general public and hereby wishes to put the record straight.
“Firstly the Pirates Arms project comprises two different buildings – one main building of four storeys measuring 12750 square metres housing shops, offices, restaurants, gaming facilities and basement parking among other services. The second building is a four-storey car park of 8440 square meters with commercial spaces for shops and offices on the ground and upper floors. There is no hotel in the Pirates Arms project and there never has been one. Even in all the plans that were submitted to the Planning Authority and other stakeholders, there were no provisions for a hotel in the Pirates Arms building.

“Secondly SPF has never taken any loans for its investments to date. For the last ten years since its inception, SPF’s projects have all been undertaken from surplus funds generated.
“SPF feels that it is very irresponsible for Lavwa Lalyans to publish such articles giving incorrect information and has requested the editor of Lavwa Lalyans to make the necessary corrections in their next edition. SPF would like to reiterate that it is very important for all members of the public, especially SPF members, to be provided with the correct information on their pension fund at all times.”

Letter to the Editor - The land we created
Letter to the Editor - The land we created
17-March-2017
On Wednesday afternoon I was driving, the car radio was on and I listened to the start of a debate in the National Assembly on a motion to look into the allocation of land on the reclaimed island of Eve, Baie Ste Anne, and also the Marie Jeanne estate, both on Praslin.
I think I heard the mover of the motion, Leader of Opposition Wavel Ramkalawan, suggest that land reclaimed from the sea was expensively created.
