16-September-2017
President Danny Faure has commended the outgoing Archbishop of the Anglican Indian Ocean province, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mauritius, Bishop Ian Ernest, for the good work being done and spiritual efforts of the church in the community and region.
Bishop Ernest was received by President Faure at State House yesterday afternoon and he accompanied on this courtesy visit by the newly elected Archbishop of the Anglican Indian Ocean province, Archbishop James Wong of the Seychelles Anglican diocese.
Bishop Ernest says he has commended the president for the excellent relations that exist between the Anglican Church in Seychelles and the state.
He added that some of the topics discussed included the increased emphasis on the family unit and inculcation of values in efforts to uplift the importance of family in society.
Challenges such as drug use and trafficking which are affecting both Mauritius and Seychelles were also discussed as well as the role the church and non-governmental organisations and the state can play to join forces to address the drug scourge regionally.
