Thaipoosam Kavadi was celebrated yesterday with fervour by the Hindus of Seychelles.

Some 500 devotees, locals and tourists took part in this popular annual Hindu festival organised by the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam (SHKS).

Early yesterday morning many devotees gathered at the Navasakthi Vinayagar temple on Quincy Street, Victoria to start preparing themselves for the big procession. Children, women and adult men all were part of the celebration and all wearing a yellow outfit. Prayers were recited to the accompaniment of the vivid traditional music.

Indian naval ship Tarkashtakes part in Festival Kreol

Indian naval ship Tarkash, a Talwar Class Frigate, is visiting Port Victoria from October 27-29, 2017 to take part in the Festival Kreol.
As part of celebrations this year, a 24-man marching contingent and the internationally acclaimed Indian naval band embarked onboard the warship, will take part in the Laserenad Enternasyonal de Victoriaon October 28, 2017.
During their stay in Port Victoria, the commanding officer and his ship’s staff will hold interactions with various authorities from the government of Seychelles and the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces. The ship’s officers and crew will also take part in sporting, cultural and charitable activities during their stay in Seychelles.
INS Tarkash (F50) belongs to the Talwar class of guided missile frigates and is based in Mumbai, India. She was built at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 9, 2012. The warship has a displacement of 4,035 tonnes with a maximum speed of 30 knots. INS Tarkash is capable of accomplishing a wide variety of missions, primarily anti-submarine warfare and anti-ship warfare.
The frigate can also effectively undertake ocean surveillance, monitoring of sea lines of communications/offshore assets and escort duties. At the helm of the ship is the commanding officer Captain Rituraj Sahu.
While in Seychelles, the ship will be docked at Port Victoria and will be open to visitors on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 10am to 3pm. All are cordially invited.

Indian HC donates ten light vehicles to SPDF

The Indian high commission (HC) has donated ten light vehicles worth US $183,000 to the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF).
The donation comprises four TATA Safari Storme and six TATA Zest cars.
It was the Indian high commissioner, Dr Ausaf Sayeed, who handed over the vehicles to the deputy Chief of Defence Forces Colonel Clifford Roseline, in a small ceremony held at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base at Ile Perseverance yesterday morning.
Also present were the Chief of Staff of the SPDF, senior Indian and SPDF officers among others.
After the handing over of the vehicles, Dr Sayeed stated that the government of India provides training and assistance to the SPDF.
“The governments of India and Seychelles have an excellent mutual relationship, which benefits both countries. Besides this donation of vehicles, a large number of SPDF personnel have been trained in various training institutions of the Indian Armed Forces. Indian naval ships regularly visit the waters of Seychelles for surveillance of our exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and joint exercises, including the recent visit of INS Mumbai during this month, which did anti-narcotics and surveillance patrolling in Seychelles EEZ,” he said.
Thanking the Indian high commissioner, Colonel Roseline said the Indian government through the Indian high commissioner in Seychelles have assisted in equipping the SPDF with various much needed hardware in the past.
“As you are all aware, the relation between our two countries and especially so between our two forces goes a long way, and the bonds that exist are continually re-enforced through the various collaborations and interactions we have, and yet again those donation is testimony of such collaboration,” he said.
He added the donation comes at an opportune moment as they complete this year, transiting into 2018.
“This consignment of vehicles has been taken into consideration during our budget preparation and thanks to your kind gesture it has assisted greatly in relieving much financial and administrative burden on the organisation. I assure you that the vehicles will be in good hands and will be well looked after and utilised as appropriate,” he said.
The government of India has also pledged a second Dornier Maritime Surveillance aircraft to the SPDF which is expected to be handed over in early 2018.

Forêt Noire commuters gets new bus shelter

Forêt Noire commuters now have a new bus shelter donated by the Lions Club of Seychelles (LCS) and sponsored by the director of Limelite Trading Pty Ltd and Enjoy Supermarket Manikandan Ganapathi to the tune of R138,000.
It was Manikandan Ganapathi, the president of LCS Dr Sasi Kumar and the chief executive (CEO) of the Seychelles Land Transport Authority (SLTA) Parinda Herath who cut the ribbon to inaugurate the facility.
This was during a short ceremony on Friday attended by other LCS members, residents of Forêt Noire, among other guests.
The project is a close partnership between Mr Ganapathi, LCS and SLTA to provide the Forêt Noire commuters with a bus shelter which will protect them from the elements while waiting for the bus.
Mr Ganapathi stated that the commuters of Forêt Noire will now wait for the bus in a more comfortable environment.
“I wanted to contribute to the development of Seychelles, so when LCS approached me to undertake such project I immediately said yes. Limelite Trading Pty Ltd and Enjoy Supermarket are really proud to have made such generous donation, and we will try our best to continue to assist in the development of Seychelles,” he said.
The district administrator for Mont Fleuri Jancy Volcère thanked Mr Ganapathi for
having sponsored the bus shelter.
“The community of Forêt Noire have been waiting for a long time for such project to come to life. We would like to thank every partner who has worked really hard to make the project become a reality,” she said.
Dr Kumar added that LCS has contributed a lot to the community of Seychelles.
“So far LCS has donated ten bus shelters including this one. As an NGO we are proud to form part of the daily lives of people. I would like to thank the CEO of SLTA Mr Herath for giving us the opportunity and our sponsor Mr Ganapathi. Without his financial support this would have not been possible,” Dr Kumar said.

We had acquire the capacity knowledge to influence who got to what post and positions. Those elite world Intelligence Service who knew and were well aware and the several strands of Illuminati workings.  Among the concern then of President Ronald Reagan, so too then Russian and other former USSR Leading Nations involved in that SIROP program that I/my person return to Seychelles to implement that SIROP program with such knowledge and capacity the gravity and consequence. The issues  of 2016 Presidential election, our getting EU involved in our local politic and they why, the breakup of SPPF/PL based importantly upon the above workings and Seychelles is not one instance their have been and are daily instances of other governments.  Yet what the world get told. We had supported the coalition  and what took place and ensued to get that Coalition together  - now as it is turning out both person are of strong Indian decent  and the strong  interest and support of India in our National politic  and the regional and international impacts against the Seychellois of none Indian decent . Any nation and country would take have the duty to take such involvement and development very seriously. The Indian ocean and West Indies long bloody history of such involvement and influences.

An effort to reconnect the diaspora with their ancestral land, the “First PIO Parliamentarian Conference” was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Jan.9 in New Delhi. The participants at the event include legislators and political leaders of Indian origin from all over the world.

As many as 124 parliamentarians and 17 mayors of Indian origin from 23 countries are in India to attend the event, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Calling the gathering a mini world parliament, Modi asked the PIO parliamentarians to play the role of catalysts in India’s economic development. “Twenty first century is being considered the Asian century and India will be a major player in this with the growing stature of our country and you shall feel proud about our growth, hence inspiring us to work even harder,” he said, according to the Times of India. “Today, bodies like the World Bank, IMF and Moody’s are looking at India in a very positive way.”

The event was attended by several Indian origin leaders from many countries, including Mauritius and Guyana. Modi made a special mention of the presence of former Guyanese President Bharat Jagdeo.

The Indian PM noted that India is experiencing aspirational and societal changes and asked leaders to join hands. He added that values of Indian culture and civilization can guide a world that is gripped in instability.

“Your ancestors had to leave India under various circumstances and that is why when you return to an Indian airport, you are reminded of your ties with this country. You have a desire to return to India and I understand your feelings very well,” Modi said, the Hindu reported.

“On one hand, you have preserved Indian culture. On the other hand, your people have excelled in sports, arts, cinema in the global platforms and have contributed to your adopted country’s welfare,” he added.

Calling the diaspora “permanent ambassadors of India,” Modi said that he makes an effort to meet NRIs and PIOs whenever he is on an official tour of a foreign country. “For enhancing our pride and dignity, you all deserve our appreciation,” he said.

(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles and India signed a 20-year agreement on Saturday that will enable the construction of military infrastructures on Assumption Island.

The agreement was signed for the second time after revisions were made to the previous one that the Secretary of State in the Foreign Affairs Department, Barry Faure, said was not clear.

In the revised agreement, the main aim is to provide a framework for assistance to Seychelles by India. It will help enhance the military capabilities in control and maritime surveillance of the island nation’s Exclusive Economic Zone of 1.37 million square km., protection of the EEZ and the outer islands, and search and rescue in the region for the benefit of air and shipping traffic.

The agreement will now go before the Cabinet of Ministers and then the National Assembly for ratification and only then can further transactions take place such as the design and tender for the construction of the base.

“A committee has been set up under this agreement that will enable a joint supervision by the two countries to ensure that the provisions under the agreement are executed,” said the Attorney General of Seychelles, Frank Ally.

The first agreement was signed in March 2015, during the official visit of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the island nation in the western Indian Ocean.

With the signing of the revised agreement by Faure and the Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Seychelles and India agreed to the conditions in the new agreement.

India is to establish its first overseas military base on the Seychelles archipelago, considerably strengthening its naval presence in the Indian Ocean to counter growing Chinese hegemony in the strategically critical region.
India’s foreign secretary Subramaniam Jaishankar and the Seychelles secretary of state Barry Faure signed an agreement at the weekend in the island republic’s capital Victoria, approving an Indian navy base and air strip on Assumption Island.

There is a rumour that Mr volcer and Mr st Ange has been paid by individuals and foreign powers to arrange the protest. I was in the protest yesterday with those guys. Just now a Post with a profile of Sheik had alleged he has proof they have been paid one million. Please send me details of who paid them. I will contact those who paid them personally to thank them and applaud them on behalf of those against the deal to have paid those individuals to do something good for their people and country and to defend our territory of invaders. Restore Seychellois sovereignty

The current use of Assumption Island by the Indian government for military purposes has already compromised the sovereignty of the Seychellois nation. Now the idea of leasing Assumption Island on a long term basis to the Indian government to build a naval base will turn the situation into a violation of Seychelles sovereignty. Our government owe the people of Seychelles a moral and legal obligation to ensure the safety and well-being of our nation and obtain the consensus of the people before going any further with their plans. Just because Wavel Ramkalawan went to India to establish his roots and just because we have allowed Indian entrepreneurs to settle in Seychelles and we have lived together in harmony and there is money in the offering, are not good enough reasons for our government to compromise and violate our sovereignty. If they continue down that path the people of Seychelles will legally challenge the government for their planned misdemeanours.

Presidential immunity
Our Supreme Court has ruled that our President is immune from liability for civil damages based on his official activities but he is not immune from criminal charges. Violating our sovereignty is a criminal act in anybody’s law book and can be challenged in the local courts and if the local Judiciary is found to be wanting in any way, then the matter can be taken to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the United Nations Council. Our presidents past and current owe a fiduciary duty of care to the people of Seychelles to preserve and protect our heritage as a nation and if the President is unsure of his grounds then he should consult the people through a referendum especially if the subject matter is so controversial. Presidents come and presidents go, some are good and some are bad but the sovereignty of a nation cannot be decided by one man and his Cabinet because their decision will have dire consequences on our generations to come well after we have taken leave of this life form.
Presidents do not enjoy immunity from prosecution because we no longer live in a world of the legal maxim of “rex non protest pecarre” meaning the “King can do no wrong”. James Michel when he was our President, under our Constitution, had no authority bestowed upon him to negotiate our sovereignty with the Indian government or any government for that matter without first consulting the people. He did so and now we are experiencing what the word “take-over” means to different people. The use of Assumption Island by the Indian naval personnel was not his decision to take alone neither with the agreement of his Cabinet. Members of the Cabinet have no mandate to negotiate our sovereignty without the consensus of the Seychellois people because they are not elected by the people, they are hand-picked by the President but even if they were elected by the people, they still have no mandate to negotiate our sovereignty. In so doing they have allowed a foreign nation to occupy part of our sovereign territory and this ambit does not form part of their appointment criteria. In my opinion they have aired on the side of committing a crime singularly and severally. It is now the preserve of President Faure and our current members of the executive to reverse this ill-conceived misdemeanour. The Indian government, with due respect, must now vacate Assumption Island and take with them their equipment and restore Assumption Island to its original and natural state as our jurisdiction and under our control. The day the Indian government military personnel landed on Assumption Island they committed an Act of War and we know what that means and just because we are a small nation others should not take advantage of us.

Taking a lesson from history
Going back to Romans times the Roman Emperors exercised their absolute power in such a situation because they believed they were not bound by any laws and during medieval Europe the feudal aristocracy did the same until the people started to object at the loss of their sovereignty. In Law the government is expected to observe “de jure” which are legally recognised practices which do not violate the citizens’ rights especially in modern day scenarios where territories are being defended with the threat of nuclear war, God forbid the world ever goes down that route to resolve sovereignty matters. All parties must put conservation at the top of their agenda and we Seychellois are proud to boast that 30% of our land mass is given over to conservation then we go and do such a stupid thing and want to place a military base only 705 miles from Victoria. It is bad enough we have not made preparations for us to survive a tsunami now we invite the opportunity for foreign military wars to be fought on our territory. What kind of nation are we?
At least Mr H. Savy in 1908 used Assumption Island to grow coconut trees and when guano, created by nature with our abundance of bird life proved more profitable, Mr Savy switched to cultivating this natural gift from our Lord. He did not destroy our environment. When the Americans tried to negotiate a military base on Assumption we told them “no Amigos” because Assumption forms part of our natural Unesco protected group of islands which includes Aldabra, our most precious conservation heritage. Now our government has seen it fit to go against the people’s will and allowed some foreign entity to occupy our sovereign territory just for the sake of a few dollars. We the Creole first nation of Seychelles must ask the Indian government to please vacate Assumption Island because we know that once we make one iota of concession the next thing is we will be taken over by India the way it happened in Mauritius. Sorry this will not happen in this lifetime.
Seychelles Civil Society (SCS) hereby demand that our government requests the Indian government to vacate Assumption and “ad statum restituere”(rerestore it to its original state) and that way the Creole nationals can live in peace and harmony with all our Indian friends and colleagues who have settled here and are doing very nicely, thank you.
