Seven athletes selected to compete
Seven athletes are set to compete in this year’s 21st Senior African Athletics Championships which are to be held in Asaba,Nigeria over the course of next week.
Dylan Sicobo (100m, 200m and 4×100m), Ned Azemia (400m hurdles and 4×100m), Sharry Dodin (100m, 200m and 4×100m), Leeroy Henriette (100m, 200m and 4×100m), Stefano Bibi (400m and 4×100m), Natasha Chetty (high jump and long jump) and Norris Brioche (high jump) are the athletes who have been chosen to compete in this year’s championships. They will be accompanied by coaches Giovanni Fanny and Carlos Sanchez.
The competition will be held in the Township Stadium with athletes from around 42 African nations taking part in 48 separate events both on and off track. This five-day challenge is set to begin on Wednesday August 1, with the finishing challenges set for Sunday August 5.
“We expect all the athletes to win medals. The two athletes competing in field events have very good chances of clinching medals. As for Ned Azemia, he can definitely put in a great showing in this competition. His time has been very good and as long as he can keep his form, he can definitely bring a great result. We’ve been training twice a day in preparation for this competition, but overall, I can say that everyone can come out with a medal in the end,” said coach Fanny.
The athletes along with the coaches are set to depart for Nigeria on Monday July 30 and are expected back in Seychelles on Tuesday August 7.
