Seychelles Diplomatic Convention - Diplomats thanked for promoting Seychelles’ interests abroad

The work being done by ambassadors and consuls abroad to promote the various sectors of our economy, protect, defend the interest and well-being of Seychelles, enhance bilateral relations and offer services to our citizens have been commended and highlighted by President Danny Faure.

The Seychellois head of state has extended his gratitude to the group of people for their “efforts to bring Seychelles to the forefront and ensure it is recognised for what it is: a country of incredible beauty and remarkable potential”.

“Your hard work is commendable and very much appreciated,” the President affirmed.

President Faure made those remarks when addressing ambassadors, consuls and other distinguished guests in a keynote speech to launch the three-day Diplomatic Convention yesterday morning at Eden Bleu Hotel.

Seychelles and foreign diplomats celebrate achievements

The department of Foreign Affairs hosted its annual diplomatic cocktail at the AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa on Tuesday evening.

The annual event is in recognition and appreciation for all the support accorded to the department of Foreign Affairs and to Seychelles by the diplomatic and consular corps, resulting in many achievements which were a cause for celebration.

Present were the speaker of the National Assembly Nicolas Prea, president of the Court of Appeal Francis McGregor, Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey, Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon, ministers, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Wavel Ramkalawan, leader of government business in the National Assembly Charles De Commarmond, secretary of state for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, members of the National Assembly, principal secretaries, staff of Maison Quéau de Quinsy and also ambassadors, high commissioners and consuls.

In his address, Vice-President Vincent Meriton, in his capacity as Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that as a small developing state, “we are faced with challenges that are crucial to our sustainability but we will continue to be a strong advocate for the preservation of our prestige natural environment as well as the sustainability of our planet and our quest for a secure and dignified life for our citizens”, hence putting emphasis on our commitment and awareness and responsibility as a member of the inextricably linked, inter-dependent and inter-connected global community.
