Soon it will be two years since the passing away of Sir James Mancham, the founding president of Seychelles.

After his passing, a committee to consider actions to honour Sir James was appointed.

The nine member committee was chaired by Ambassador Bernard Shamlaye and consists of individuals from across the political divide.

Amongst the suggestions put forward was to erect a bust in Peace Park in Victoria, followed by that of other former presidents after their passing.

Ironically, whilst two years on the President’s Office is dragging its feet to commission the bust, the Indian community in Seychelles wants to erect two busts of Mahatma Gandi at different important local institutions – the National Assembly and the Palais de Justice.

Sir James who died on 8th January 2017 could be the first recipient of this prestigious national recognition.
