National Assembly deliberates on properties acquired by Parti Lepep

Flory Larue, member of LDS in the National Assembly, brought a motion before the National Assembly yesterday asking it to appeal to Parti Lepep to return all state properties that it has acquired, or bought at discounted prices through its privileged positions, so the various plots of land can be repartitioned in the interest of the communities where such plots are situated.
During her intervention, Ms Larue detailed 59 plots of land belonging to Parti Lepep in numerous districts around Mahé, Praslin and La Digue ranging from 200m₂ to 12,184m₂ in size which were acquired for prices ranging from R18,250 to R300,000, mainly from the government.
She remarked that 56 plots, some of which are still undeveloped, were bought from the government and that President Danny Faure authorised the majority of the sales in his previous positions in the Parti Lepep government.
She continued her motion by stating that only three plots have been returned to the State in December 2017 at a price of R1 but that they should all be given back for the development of districts.
Furthermore, she questioned the legality of the transactions and stated that Parti Lepep has abused its position and misused funds and that Seychellois are losing out as a result.
“The one case which is a clear robbery of the nation is Maison du Peuple. The plot V8013 measures 6044m₂. It is a property that should have been for Seychellois as the public worked together to construct the building and the public contributed directly through donations made at activities such as fishing competitions. The activities were to raise R3 million but that amount was surpassed. Even the engineering works were done free of cost,” Ms Larue said.
