Members of the Prison Advisory Board (PAB) yesterday carried out a visit to check on the progress being carried out at the Montagne Posée prison facility.
The PAB, conducting its 4th working visit this year, was updated by the Superintendent of Seychelles Prison Service, Raymond St. Ange, on progress to date and status on new projects for 2018, status of repairs to facilities and other issues that the service has raised or may have.
The PAB requested and was given access to the main male prison block, the inmate dining hall and kitchen, the welfare and counselling offices, the female prison unit, as well as projects currently underway.
Members also visited the new security gate, isolation cells, to name but a few.
Finally the PAB was briefed on prison service plans for the future of Montagne Posée prison, viewing proposals that had been recently presented to the National Development Committee.
The PAB has the mandate under the Prison Act to advise the minister responsible on matters pertaining to the prisons.
The current board is chaired by Reverend Danny Elizabeth, and has as members Judy Brioche, Andrea Mounac, Marie-Ange Denis and J. Thelermont.
Following the most recent visit, the PAB chairman, Reverend Elizabeth, confirmed that a report for this year would be submitted in January 2019 to Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon as the Minister for Home Affairs, adding that he had observed and noted satisfactory and continued progress at the Montagne Posée prison.
The PAB will shortly be visiting the Seychelles Prison Facility on Coetivy island.
