A new book entitled ‘Seychelles State House – Centenary of Inauguration’ was launched yesterday to mark the centenary of the building.

Present at the State House ceremony were President James Michel, Vice-President Danny Faure, speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie, president of the Court of Appeal Francis MacGregor, ministers and other high government officials as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

It was President Michel who requested the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to seize the opportunity of the centenary of the edifice to mark the occasion with the launch of a book.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange said our history is colourful and fascinating, and the time has come for us to make the effort to continue to document it.

He added that the book will present readers in Seychelles and abroad with the chance to acquaint or to reacquaint themselves with our country, society and evolution as a nation and as a people.

Also addressing the guests, President Michel said State House is an integral part of our patrimony and it bears testimony of our rich history.
He added that it has witnessed our 20th century history both as a colony and as a sovereign state.

President Michel congratulated Minister St Ange and his team for the excellent piece of work and called on them to continue to produce such documents for the history of Seychelles.
“The publication of this excellent book is timely and is a big contribution to the documents that already exist on State House, and I hope in the future there will be more publications on the different aspects on State House and its history,” he said.

A copy of the book was presented to President Michel by Minister St Ange while guests had the chance to view the publication during a short reception.
