(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles is taking steps to ban corporal punishment -- hitting a child -- in private households, daycare centres and children’s homes in line with research showing such disciplinary measures cause long-term harm, officials said.

Banning corporal punishment would be in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a human rights that came into force in September 1990.
