(Beware: below are images of the bones: not for faint-hearted.)
The bones were discovered on the beach of Ile au Cerf on Monday 27th of December, which were later identified as human bones.
Mr. Ward Horner, owner of l'Habitation hotel said that when walking by the beach yesterday, he noticed that the sand was washed away, which revealed a base of the island’s shore. "The high tide has eroded the land. We lost about 8–10 metres of land. Years ago, there used to be land, grass, and trees everywhere. Trees have fallen and the land has been badly eroded."
It was there that he saw the bones. There were bits and pieces of bones scattered around. "As I have told the police, it could have been somebody buried there many years ago, it could have been a pirate, we don’t know, but I believe the bones were there beyond my time.”
Mr. Allen Cedras, CEO of Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority, said that Mr. Horner sought the assistance of the Rangers after noticing bones. The Rangers then contacted the police and an official investigation has begun.
