Case of Iranian dhow still under investigation
12-April-2018
Investigations are ongoing in the incident whereby a foreign dhow caught fire and eventually sunk in the early hours of Tuesday April 10, 2018, within the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The dhow was carrying 14 crew members on board when the incident happened, and all were rescued by the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) patrol ship Topaz.
Seychelles NATION contacted the police department yesterday to find out the situation of the 14 crew members and how the investigation is going.
Since the interview process is still ongoing with the 14 crew members, we were unable to gather more information regarding the investigation.
The crew members, who are suspected to be involved in drug smuggling activities in the Seychelles EEZ, were escorted to Mahé after local anti-narcotics agents and the SCG had boarded their dhow during a special operation.
