During this week we are reminded that the prophecy as stated in the bible has been accomplished,” explained Reverend Brian Volcere who is the rector of St. Paul’s Cathedral. “In the Anglican church, we gather on Thursday where we symbolically wash the feet of any members of the congregation who wishes it to be done. We also celebrate the ‘Chrism Mass’ and all of the Anglican priests join together for a renewal of their vows. On that same day, we also strip the altar of decorations and empty the tabernacle. This to us is very important; the moment is a solemn one and we engage in prayers. On Friday we hold two services, one for the children and one for adults. The adult service is the one where for three hours we reflect and meditate on the seven words of God and at the same time to also pray and praise. On Saturday, we have the night vigil and we also celebrate the history of salvation through readings. The biggest candle in the church is lit up; to us, this is a symbol of Christ in the tomb and his resurrection,” shared Reverend Volcere. “On that same night, members of the congregation have to the opportunity to renew their baptism vows.”
