Coprah

During the early 20th century when the coconut industry provided livelihood for hundreds of inhabitants, women were employed to do specific tasks, such as halving coconuts. These were then laid down in the sun for the nut to become loose from the shell, which made it easy for the women to remove with a blunt knife. The coconut pieces were made into coprah from which coconut oil was extracted. It required 6,000 to 7,000 coconuts to make one tonne of coprah.
