Mr Simon Esparon was the owner, His Cousin Mr Alex Esparon of Katiolo night Club one of the the Island elite and very famous venue. His father ran a butcher business for many years. Mr Lau Tee from the USA Treasure digs -   in front of their property the fishing boats when your relatives lived in Seychelles Aux cap and the Special police British era use to come and do firing practices on the beach side of their property and he belong to those Seychelles who supported that SIROP program and our EU Community workings. Then South East Island  Dr Tony D'Offay and his wife across from Anse Faure where the Special Force came to practice firing headed by Mr Stone, beside then SPUP, those with a Unilateral Independence Plan - he was a very discipline and effective Officer

Is Seychelles descending into a State of lawlessness? If hard working citizens cannot be safe in their own homes or business premises then we need some URGENT measures! What is happening in Seychelles??? As Seychellois have we lost our way of living? What is wrong in Seychelles, is this the effect of generations of not having savoire vivre handed down from one generation to the next?

Glynn Burridge We will remain lawless until strong steps are taken to make it otherwise..

Nao Talma yes u rite mr cesar so sad

Georgette Hoareau D'offay Cursed?

Rya Vyahpooree Daniel I believe it's high time the Compol put emphasis on a communication campaign. Highlights the offences and the related punishments (fine + imprisonment).
This move will enhance the police presence and hopefully act as a deterrent effect against in the mind of some.

Georgette Hoareau D'offay These robbers are on all corners of the island.

Bryan Dangfang Needs to implement caning

Rya Vyahpooree At this stage do we know if it was a robbery or a premeditated act to murder?

Noellie Alexander Heard the terrible news and right now I feel sad, angry and desperate! A man's home is no longer a haven of safety and solace. Let us mourn the loss of our peaceful, safe and altogether beautiful Seychelles! I shall miss her forever.

Georgette Hoareau D'offay we have lost her a long time ago Noellie.

Jacques Pool We need capital punishment. Period.

Yvonne Maria What's up again?

Andrea Lenclume Yvonne Maria Simon Esparon was killed in the early hours today

Yvonne Maria Oh my god our paradise is turning into hell...hope they will catch the murders

Rya Vyahpooree People should not feel to take law and order in their own hands when you have a police force and internal security.
This will turn the country into a chaos.

Georgette Hoareau D'offay Yeah Rya.
however one has to defend their property and their families.
The police can do so much....See More

Rya Vyahpooree That's what am saying...make a massive communication campaign to avoid and reduce criminality.

Jane Carpin So sad ro hear the news. My very good friend, we used to do our little exercise on the golf course in the early mornings. May his soul rests in peace. So sorry i won' be there 4 his funeral.

Parvez Udwadia Time for a real change.

EStelle Rassool Shocked and sad. As Mr Cesar rightfully says, hard working successful citizens are being targeted by those rogues. I think burglary with violence, should get life, and I mean life. We should increase the prison sentence on burglary and let it serve as a deterrent for others. We need action now.

Savita Parekh Death not life imprisonment as our prison is like a 5 star hotel where you come back out in the society with a degree and zero punishment 😡😡😡😡

Andrea Lenclume so sad.he was a kind man.i enjoy talking to him.will miss him.seychelles has lost a great man

Nelson Prudence Yeah the law totally kaput on island & for real I think the island are totally dead if measures are weak...

Robert Fock-Tave Kill all murders, rapist, paedophile, drug dealers terrorists no jail time. See how that goes.

Rya Vyahpooree Prisoners are just well off to my opinion. For some going to prison is like going on holidays!

David Pouponneau This is how our law enforcement authorities operate. They fucking lay back till the fatalities strike. The police force has a very long way to go.

Allen Gervais Comettant This is just sad... we are civilized people... what is happening to our people ? They have no respect for human life... it's time to find the cause of this decline in respect for fellow human beings.

David Pouponneau It is not about time. It has long past the time.

Rya Vyahpooree Evil is evil... up to the authority to put emphasis over law and order.
Revamp the police force. Increase police patrol, make use of technology for a proximity security to the people...and lastly change this white, well ironed shirt policemen put on...they are not office employees but should be feared on our roads.

Georgette Hoareau D'offay drove home at 1am last night many people roaming the streets.

Marie-Georgette Naiken And thus ends an era!The owner of the Katiolo night club as I can recall, has been organising these social evenings since my schooling days (70's). He has been opening his Katiolo doors to us to help us unwind and eliminate mental fatigue and stress after a week of hard work. He has been helping us get together and socialise at one of the the best discotheques known in town. So this is how we pay him back?

Twan Albert Its very easy. Find who did this and hang him or them at 12 oclock for everyone to see

Cecile J Nicette so unbelievable. When you look at the beauty of this country and you compare it to the craziness of such actions it makes you want to vomit...condolences to the family

Aubrey Adeline As long as we keep on letting politic dictate our laws and as long as we are weak and fearful in speaking out against what is wrong in our country, evil will thrived. Our laws are failing us because it's to soft on criminal, drastic measure must be taken. So Sad.

Terence Desaubin Drugs bring crime

Aubrey Adeline Right you are my friend, the main big problem is drug in this country, dealers drive around full tinted in their big cars while hi fiving police officer, while their wifes pretend to have a little clothing shop in Victoria, and NDEA agent say they can't do no thing cause (Zwer in fini mir) FUCK THAT. Drug is the source for all our problems, Social, Education etc...

Jacques Pool As long as we keep hiding the Escobars under the political bed, the country will keep sliding into lawlessness.

Fred Ivans Now its a trend, last weekend one,and again this weekend, so what's going on?

Ayub Suleman Adam May his soul rest in peace. Almighty save our Seychelles. Ameen

Rya Vyahpooree Sorry to play with the words Ayub but aren't we enough to say rest in peace to those we have lost unfairly? High time we think about living in peace rather than saying to rest in peace.

Michael Mendes Police efficiency will once again be put to the test. How quickly they solve this will restore the public's confidence in them....

Serge Benstrong It's so sad to learn such a news. Seychelles need to address this situation as a matter of urgency and priority.

Katiolo celebrates its 40th anniversary
Standing the test of time, Katiolo is still officially the longest running nightclub in the country. The club opened its doors back in 1974 under the patronage of Simon Esparon who has led the family-run business to what it has become today. The event was commemorated on Friday with a special function that saw over 200 guests celebrating the last four decades of a club that has seen the foundation of many friendships, milestone events and functions… not forgetting a few romantic encounters along the way.

With its signature thatched roof, Katiolo is an unmistakable landmark at Anse Faure - which is only a few kilometres after the airport. Brigitte Esparon, who is the daughter of the club’s founder, told TODAY that, “we wanted to keep the place as traditionally Seychellois as possible, hence the name Katiolo (a small traditional fishing boat made of wood – akin to the larger pirogue). The business started small and it included a restaurant which served Chinese-inspired dishes. Those were the early years and it was located in a wooden gazebo at the back of the building,” added Ms Esparon, who is also a key player in the family business.
As the family patriarch, Mr Esparon - who also runs a popular butcher’s shop in the vicinity, told this newspaper; “I undertook most of the works in building the place. It was different back then, as there was no fencing at the back of the property and there was even a small beach which patrons would use”. Mr Esparon also reminisced of the early days when live bands were still the norm in Seychelles. “We had bands like the Nightshades, Wreckers, and The Hippies who used to play in the evenings,” said the nostalgic businessman who noted that “things eventually progressed to Disc Jockeys (DJ’s) playing their tracks from cassettes, which were then followed by compact discs,” he added.

It is interesting to note that the business has also retained some long serving members of staff such a Maurice Lavigne, who served as Katiolo’s Manager for 17 years during the 90’s, up until the mid 2000’s and their popular in-house DJ, Joe Lafortune – who has already clocked an impressive 22 years behind the turntables. DJ Joe also works alongside DJ’s Tony Madeleine and Giovanni Laval.

All was not rosy however; the nightclub suffered a brush with tragedy three years ago as a fire broke out, partly destroying the thatched roof. However, the impending disaster was mitigated by the fact that the fire did not spread to the entire building. A hardworking crew of carpenters and repairmen were able to restore the building in only one week and this was followed by a record number of revelers attending the re-opening party. “We still prefer the thatched roof as it is unique and it is part of Katilo’s identity,” said Mr Esparon, who notes that, “this is the fourth major overhaul we’ve had on the roof since opening.

When questioned on the issue of noise disturbance, Brigitte Esparon told this newspaper that, “we are very grateful to our neighbours in the vicinity, as they have continuously shown their support over the years. We are quite aware that noise could be an issue and we have made it a point not to put any speakers in the outdoor area”. It is interesting to note that Katiolo is the only nightclub in Seychelles that is not closed – as it has an open area at the back of the building which allows patrons to smoke or socialize.

What does the future hold for Katiolo? “We are continuously upgrading our infrastructure and keeping up with international trends,” said Ms Esparon. “Our lighting system is state of the art and we will always make it a point to adhere to the strictest policies with regards to anti-social behavior through our well equipped contingent of security personnel,” she stressed. Under a young management team that consists of Brigitte Esparon, Paul Esparon, Stephane Dupouy, Renoff Apoo and Dennis Esparon, it is certain that Katiolo’s has a promising future and that it will continue to entertain many more generations to come.

I'm so shocked, and sad and disgusted. To hear about the apparent murder of Simon, He was iconic to Anse Aux Pins, when I was little, every Sunday morning we would take a trip "Kot Tiko" the butcher's shop for meat and boudin. At the time it was a tiny little shop further down inside the lane by the sea. I hope these criminals who did this to you and your wife, find their karma. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Comment - From the moment Judge E J Stiven arrived in Seychelles /Point Larue in exile he started buying bones and meat left over for his dog and much later at the Aux Cap estate we regularly went/called on him and his family to get meat left overs for the many Labradors we then had.- the whole Family become well acquainted with Judge E J Stiven. ;

Petition for the Introduction of Capital Sentence (Death Sentence) for Criminals found Guilty on Murder and harsher Laws for Repeated Offenders of Break-in and Burglary
We citizens of Seychelles, conscious of our Constitutional Rights to freely co-exist in a Democratic Society which among other Charters, enshrines our right to earn our daily bread through lawful means and our right the enjoyment of our property, following the several instance where and when our beloved fellowmen and law abiding citizens have been affected by the increasing waves of crimes, primarily “Murder and House Break-in and Burglary”, do hereby by liking this post (“LIKE”), formally commit ourselves as petitioners to an formal petition to be duly circulated to the Government of Seychelles, the National Assembly of the Republic of Seychelles, the Office of the Attorney General for the review of the Constitution and Laws of Seychelles (if need be, through a national referendum) with regards to individual(s) found beyond any reasonable grounds, guilty for the Criminal Offence of MURDER, not excluding House Break-in and Burglary.
We feel that the existent laws governing the above offences are too lenient and do not meet and do not answer to the expectation of our society and thereby, they need to be totally reviewed.
Our proposals includes the amendment of Human Right Charter to make way for the introduction of Capital Sentence (Death Penalty) for anyone found beyond any reasonable doubt, “Guilty” for the offence of “Murder”. Another amendment we are petitioning for; is for the introduction of harsher laws with regards to “repeated offenders” of “Break-in and burglary” or “Break-in with the intent of Burglary. With regards to the latter, we do propose that the amputation of the most consumed limb used for the purpose of the offence.
Our intent is NOT intended towards ill-will, malice or Cruelty but primarily aimed towards protecting the law abiding citizens of this land from the persisting abuse and cruelty imposed on us by criminals. The amendment should it be considered, will also serve as a strong message against all perpetrators of illegal criminal activity, hence serving as a deterrence.

Daniel Baronne i do not want someone who killed a loved one to get to cop out by dying. i want them to spent the rest of their lives in prison with no chance of parole and for them to work and all the money they make being given to the family of the victim. they will die eventually so that part will be taken care of.

Louis J. Loizeau And Mr. Baronne do you have a cent of an idea how much in precious cash this will cost law abiding Seychellois citizens??? Any idea how much it costs in food, clothing, medical care, security and what not to keep these monsters who has no whatsoever re...See More

Daniel Baronne it will still take a long time before they are killed.in usa it can take as long as 40 years. in the meantime we will still have to pay the cost. the death penalty has not worked in the usa and many states are now stopping the practice as innocent has sometimes been killed. i understand your idea, honest, i do but in a small country like ours who would administer the sentences? we will only be opening a pandora box.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. This is a quote.
My issue is good men where trying to do something in 2015 there was a public out cry to put thieves behind bar finally in 2016 came a stupid law that gave thieves the oppotunity to come out or defeat the system by saying im a drug addict and he was released.
The system was not in place for that and we were not even ready for that. Now the out cry is back and people blame only one organisation the police. Investigation is a skill people needs to keep on training everyday. But when an investigator sees his case which he has devoted himself to have a succesful detection the suspect get 8 months for a breaking that fustrate him but now the thief knowns that the next time he must be wiser.
Everyone played a role to why seychelles is in this situation. Civilian was thinking only of his tax. The police where not being equiped. The government was playing"bon boug" and the judicial system was giving a slap on the hand to those thieves.
Now my question who do we blame? Have any one of you seat in a court to listen to what is being said? I can go on and on with question but where and when does it stop should we be asking.

Has anyone seen three men looking suspicious the night Mr. Esparon was murdered?
Waking up to the shocking news of another murder in our little island. A businessman, a friend Mr. Simon Esparon. Well, known for his black pudding, and all the wonderful delicacies of his butcher shop. His wonderful friendly club the Katiolo! Rest in peace Mr. Esparon.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Esparon and all the family and friends of Simon Esparon.
Many questions on the people's lips, as to who committed this crime?
Are the police doing a proper investigation?
Was their DNA under the victim's nails?
Is Mrs. Esparon in a state of answering a few questions, like the size and height of the attackers, details of masks they were wearing, the color of skin and eyes, if she can remember all these details it will be a help for a thoroughness investigation. Does the club have surveillance cameras, that could possibly point out three men that walked in the club together, or sitting together that night Mr. Esparon was murdered? Maybe the perpetrators were at the club that night, planning and plotting to where Mr. Esparon's were about.
Seychellois we need to take action into our own hands, I believe that Seychelles law is a farce working under directions of criminals.

Sesel Koko Tier I just heard the perpetrators of Mr. Simon Esparon are in police custody, can anyone please confirm?

Georgette Hoareau D'offay I surely hope they have.
can anyone confirm that ?

Nisette Hoarau I hope the bastard has really been caught.

The savage murder of Mr Simon Esparon, is once again a shocking reminder of the epidemic of violent crimes that have been terrorising our people for many years.

Our nation is today outraged at the failure of our Police and government to fulfill their basic duty of keeping our nation safe; and the lack of political will to protect our people from the wave of atrocities that have now run out of control.
We are therefore now appealing to the political leaders to mount a swift and no-nonsense crackdown on those brutal gangsters who are ruining the lives of our people and the image of our nation.
The fact is that for many years, the Police have been reluctant to arrest those suspected of burglaries, assaults and other violent crimes, on the pretext that they lack evidence.
A huge number of victims have reported crimes to Police with evidence of the suspects; but the Police continue to dismiss those crimes as minor matters and for most times proper action is not taken.
We therefore demand for IMMEDIATE action be taken to create a strong and effective Police Force; and to grant them all the legal powers they need to arrest and investigate everyone suspected of carrying out violent crimes in our country.

Murder most foul - "We want closure"..

Saturday 18 November 2017
Murder most foul
"We want closure"
This is what the family of the late Simon Esparon say they want as they attend the first court hearing; yesterday, the courts charged two of the three suspects for murder.
by S. Marivel
Cliff Emmanuel (49 years old) and Marco Mathiot (26 years) are being charged with intent of murder, and a third man – Daniel Tirant of La Louise, has been charged as an accomplice in the case. A fourth man has been released.
The two, who are residents of Mont Fleuri, are to remain at the Montagne Posée prison until they reappear before the court on Monday 27 November. Mr. Tirant who aided and abetted as an accomplice will remain at the Central Police Station until then.
The Prosecution recounted in detail the night of the attack at the Esparon home – which was visibly putting the family, sitting front and centre in the court room – through the same traumatic experience they went through the first time on the night of the break-in.
The son, David Esparon, later confides, “You know I have a background in law, and I’ve attended many murder cases but I never guessed I would be sitting in one from my own family being affected.”
He spoke softly but firmly when he said on behalf of his whole family present, “We want closure for the sake of our father.”
As for how they are coping, he reveals that it has been “very hard on all of us. We were all close to him in our own way and now he’s gone.”
It was revealed through the readings of the family’s statements and through a key witness – Terry Jeremie, who was driving the van that the three suspects were in – that they arrived on the scene prepared.
“They carried a machete and a crowbar, and of course the police found Mr. Esparon’s body on the ground with his hands and feet still tied and masking tape on his mouth,” the Prosecution told the court. They also added that wounds were found on his body.
In Marie-Josée Esparon’s statement, excerpts of which were also read aloud to the court, it was revealed that she was aggressed by the men so they could get more money. The statement also says that she heard her husband plead with the men to let them go. He later died of asphyxia.
Terry Jeremie remained in the car, licence plate S10198, on the night of the attack; therefore, he has been removed as a main suspect and is now treated as a key witness in the case. This is also why the three suspects will not be released on bail, “...to prevent them to interfering with the case or the witnesses through violence or intimidation.”
Simon Esparon died at the age of 67 at his home in Anse Faure. He was the owner of the famous Katiolo nightclub and a butchery
.

Comment -Allen Houareau The driver should also be brought to justice as he was an accesory to the murder. Yes, maybe a more lenient sentence but not acquitted.

Bruce Sabry I am confused. Was the driver of the vehicle not of the same intent of the other accused charged? So why is he being used as a prime witness for the prosecution? Charge him too and then after conviction use his testimony.

Emma Port-Louis Maybe the driver had some sort of plea bargain i think..whereby he agreed to provide evidence as a witness in return for a more linient sentence or not to be an accuse in this case...not sure but could be..

Georgio Morel Surely the Attorney General office had a reason to use the driver of that vehicle as a witness for the prosecution. May be if he was also charged with the others , the prosecution won't have sufficient evidence to prove a case against the other three accused beyond reasonable doubt.

Juli Payet Yes Allen Houareau I think the same because if it wasn't him who drove them to Mr Esparon home maybe he would still be alive today.

Nadia Payet Knowles I feel disgusted, cannot believe this happened is Seychelles they should be all locked away forever including the driver.

Heulwen Thomas Pool No words are strong enough to say how sad and disgusted I feel.

Robert Bason A very sad lack of a decent security system.

Gilbert J Labiche Need justice, things is getting out of hand
