Conviction - Woman gets three years and six months in Lafarge fraud case

A woman, Flora Barrack of Bougainville, has been sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment after being found guilty of stealing by servant and falsifying account with intent to defraud.
On January 19, 2018 the court delivered judgment in a matter which was being investigated by the Commercial Crime Unit related to the offences of stealing by servant and misappropriation of funds by directors.
The total sum of money involved in the matter was R3,666,186.50 with local Lafarge Cement Company Limited as complainant.
Ms Barrack was the accused and she was found guilty of two charges -- stealing by servant as well as falsifying account with intent to defraud and was convicted accordingly.
Upon her lawyer’s request, the case was adjourned for probation report, mitigation and sentencing was forwarded for February 5, 2018 (yesterday).
Ms Barrack received a prison term of three years and six months for the offence of stealing by servant and a prison term of two years and six months for the offence of falsifying account with intent to defraud.
Her two prison terms will run concurrently meaning she is going to serve only three years and six months.
