President Danny Faure’s statement to the nation following tragic weekend of August 25-26, 2018 ‘Let us seek God’s comfort and peace in prayer’
28-August-2018
In a statement to the Seychellois nation, President Danny Faure has said that the tragic weekend of August 25 to 26 has brought much grief to our community as we shared the news of the death of three of our fellow citizens and four hard working seafarers who remain missing at sea.
“During this time of sadness and incertitude, let us continue to stand together as a nation and seek God’s comfort and peace in prayer,” he said.
President Faure added that we pray for the comfort and consolation of those who now walk in sorrow.
“We thank God for each life we now must mourn, as we bounce back to a life of more determination, appreciation and humility,” President Faure added.
Well-known and respected Seychellois captain Pierre Grandcourt lost his life at sea on Saturday afternoon while bringing his help in an operation to remove a stranded fishing vessel on the reefs in the vicinity of Cerf and Long islands.
In a second incident on Sunday morning, a young man in his early twenties was found dead in his room on Fregate island where he was working. The cause of death is yet to be established.
The third tragic incident involved a 44-year-old man whose body was found lying next to his car in the vicinity of the PUC power station at Roche Caiman and the St. Anne jetty.
As for the missing seafarers, the incident happened early on Sunday morning when the boat they were on, the Sea Horse --- a landing craft – caught fire some 200 metres off Coetivy. Only one crew member managed to escape. A search operation is still on to locate the whereabouts of the four missing men.
