President sends message of condolence following the passing of Dr. Maxime Ferrari

The President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, on behalf of the Government, the people of Seychelles and his family has expressed his heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the Designated Minister, Jean-François Ferrari and the Ferrari Family on the passing away of Dr. Maxime Ferrari.
"Today, as we celebrate Independence Day, we mourn a respectable son of the soil who served as minister in the first cabinet. Seychelles is mourning the passing of a true son of Seychelles. Dr Ferrari's immense contributions to the country as a renowned medical practitioner, political icon and active citizen who has enormously contributed to the development of our nation. His lively personality and immense knowledge, as well as the love for his country are traits we hope our younger generation will emulate. We say goodbye to another Praslinois who served his country with great devotion and pride,” said the President.
Dr Ferrari held several positions in government and within the UN. He was a champion of human rights and democracy.
We pray for the repose of his soul as we uphold his widow and children.

Dr Jean Désiré Maxime Ferrari, born 27 January 1930 was a retired politician and former obstetrician who held several different positions in the government of Seychelles. He was widely regarded as an activist against corrupt governmental practices and considered a champion of human rights and democracy in the African island nations of the Indian Ocean.
News about Dr Ferrari’s passing was shared via the State House Press Room earlier, with President Ramkalawan sending his message of condolences to the friends and family of Dr Ferrari.

Former Minister Dr. Maxime Ferrari has passed away at the age of 91.
Dr. Ferrari held several positions in government and within the United Nations.
In a statement issued by State House, the President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan extended his deepest sympathy and condolences to the Designated Minister, Mr. Jean-François Ferrari and the Ferrari Family.
