Daniel Baronne Those opportunists would rather a Pl government than an LDS government where they are not at the top. And then they talk about Seychelles above all. Mr. Pillay does not have to worry if Pl stays in power as he is rich and powerful. But what about his supporters who will be victimized under PL government. Does he not care about that.

Unsurprisingly. No Surprises. The writings on the many walls. It came. THE NIGHT OF THE LONG KNIVES.
Emergence of a ‘United’ Opposition euphoric. “Hope for Johana”. A marriage not made in Heaven. Unfortunate eventuality. Entity for personal ambitions. Selfish aspirations. Vessel to feed insatiable greed. Self aggrandizement. Intentions veiled. Disguise most effective. ‘Passoir‘ timely.
National interests sidelined. Electorates mandate soon forgotten. Contracts with Electorates ‘decontracted’. Commitments uncommited. ‘Ununited’ unity. Absence of Comprehensive policies. Nation second tier.
The other side of the same coin. The Real Oppopsition still strong. The larger whole of the Opposition. More resolute. Still committed to REAL CHANGE. Real Change voted for by the Electorates. Change from the years of ‘Unilaterism’. Those years of contention. Contestation.
The custodians of change have failed. Failed the electorates. The habitants. The nation. The whole country. They did not deliver. To the nation. There are exceptions. Exceptions in their own camps. Frustrations as high. As the popularity is low. Concerns mounting. Mercury rising.
Country at a difficult juncture. The ‘Baddest’. Some claim. The nation knew what they could NOT do. Then. The nation do not know what they COULD do. Now. Country in limbo. That situation needs an intervention. A Surgical one. Clean cut.
Decision time is here. Decision not emotive. Away from the personality cult. Decision on facts. Not fiction. Presidential Elections; 2001 Wavel Ramkalawan 44.9%. 2006 Wavel Ramkalawan 45.7%. 2011 Wavel Ramkalawan 41.4% 2015 Wavel Ramkalawan 35.3%. It gets ‘badder’. He went into the second round. With a combined effort of 51.5 %. He failed to convert. Few weeks later. He was rejected by the English River constituents. Another reprimand. Another loss. Again. Loss pattern. Pattern foreboding.
Parliamentary Commissions shambolic. Questions sparing. Selective. One Chief Executive appears before the Commission a Millionaire. Exits a Billionaire. Most striking. Leadership supports the status quo. A fan of the all powerful few. Assomption another Minus. Performance Degressive. The opposition is strong. Opposition to win any elections. But the leadership is weak. Weak to lose ALL elections.
The Electorates voted for REAL CHANGE. Not this wishy-washy. Wellness of the NATION before personal aspirations. SNP should go back tot he drawing board.Review their policies. Their leadership. IDENTIFY THEIR IMPEDIMENTS. Their ‘Weakest Link’. Implement the EXPECTED Reforms. Initiate the elimination process. A LEADER IS TO LEAD. NOT TO IMPOSE.
Their inability to act. Ominous. Portentous. Back to those days. OR The Alternative. ‘The Other Element’. There is a pool of eligible candidates. Young. Honest. Compassionate. Humble. RESPECTFUL. RESPECTED.
The Country. The Nation. Larger than anything. Anyone. Larger than any One Person. The OPPOSITION could not be individuated. Opposition is strong. Resolve of the Opposition not in contention. ELECTORATES’ OPPOSITION TRANSCENDS ALL.
OPPOSITION ‘JAMAIS POUR LAISSE TOMBER’.
EVERY ONE TO THEIR OWN.

Political Turmoil explained by me.
The issues regarding the appointment of a new speaker is simply that Nicholas Prea will not be able to do so because he is actually the current acting speaker and deputy speaker elect. should he wish to run for the speaker post he must resign as deputy speaker first.
Since there is no one to officially chair the parliament this is not an option for MR. Prea therefore he has to contempt himself with running things with the fiasco that is ongoing.
Should prea chose to resign then there will be no one to chair the parliament and therefore Danny Faure will not be able to address the nation from parliament. The national assembly cannot take its normal business sitting unless they hold a special one to pass vote or resolve to elect a new speaker and deputy.
So who can become speaker in LDS? So far every choice would be on Clifford Andre, Bernard George, Jean-Francois Ferrari.
For Bernard it is not an option as it is a full time job unlike a simple MNA post where you can multi task and earn two salaries and perks. As per Ferrari he is fire brand therefore more welcome to disputes and conflicts rather than a man of peace and impartiality. So logicaly as it has been the case in the past where lawyer Clifford Andre slash MNA AAP, has shown interest in the post, he would be the one left standing.
Now to the Pat Pillay interview and his pulling out "Lalyans Seselwa" from LDS. Well the law makes no provision to stop a party leader from doing so, unless his own party resolves to remove him and appoint a new leader. Only then can the new leadership elect be able to maintain the arrangement they had with LDS. In the mean time as he is still leader of "Lalyans Seselwa", it is clear if he removes his party from the alliance then this is a "fait accomplis".
Now when he removes his party from alliance; if the sitting members chose to remain in parliament then they are officialy LDS and under roger mancienne's terms (LDS party ideology and constitution). Now the catch is with the "lalyans seselwa" Proportional seat's. If you are not directly elected then you are now at the mercy and hands of LDS Leadership or Ramkalawns beck and will.
So will ramkalawan maintain previous terms and conditions of Proportional seat's or will he use this opportune to sneak in a few former SNP friends?
Remember what happened to Frank Elizabeth when he was there for the DP? He voted for European to patrol our seas and rid us of piracy while Europe did it at their own cost but still was removed and today Ramkalawan is the same man who wants us to believe seychelles will benefit much from an indian base as it will save us money protect our seas and be a useful ally!
Who does not see the Ironny there? Should we be made to believe in truth and reconcialiation this would be an opportunity for the SNP leader to say sorry to MR. Frank Elizabeth.
Vesna Rakic Interesting
Jemma Simeon Good analysis, Jean Paul.
Guy Ah-Moye Does the rules say the speaker has to be an MNA?
Eddie Westergreen Someone will be removed as a MNA, then replace with someone else and he will be the new speaker....... That's my take.
Second if LDS VOTES for a military base on assumption, we will get a new election!!!!
Vesna Rakic Is that the trade off? Assumption for elections?
Eddie Westergreen Vesna but the question is who will support LDS after they vote Yes? I know i will not!
Eddie Westergreen I am against it simple.
Jean-Paul Isaac guy ah moye, the law says the assembly will appoint someone from parliament (member of parliament ) to be the speaker and deputy speaker therefore it has to be born from an mna position.
As per the Assumption issue i believe if LDS votes in favor of a military base there this would be a political suicide from whomever from their group does that. Then again LDS has a trump card called the abstaining card they play and can play.
By simply abstaining they can allow the votes from PL to go through and have the deed sign without having to be a part of it. This would be like murder without actualy being on site.

Clifford André refutes payment claims
03-March-2018
Notary Clifford André has refuted allegations brought against him in a Supreme Court decision whereby he was ordered to deposit R300,000 in an account held under the Government of Seychelles.
All parties with an interest to the case may make a claim on the sum but it will be forfeited to the Government of Seychelles unless claimed for a period of one year from the date of judgment.
While exercising his right of reply, Mr André denied taking the money and therefore should not be paying the sum of R300,000.
“The R300,000 was negotiated between the middleman, the buyer and the seller, there was nothing to do with me. So the sum is not supposed to be paid by me but even when I stated that in court Chief Justice Mathila Twomey did not take it into consideration,” he said.
He said this does mean there were no errors made in this particular case but he could have been held partly responsible rather than being blamed for the whole mishap.
“I will definitely appeal and I hope to have a fair hearing and judgement by the Court of Appeal,” he said.
He said the judgement was unfair as he feels CJ Twomey has a personal and political motive to eliminate him as he has filed various complaints with the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA) against her.

Re: LDS has opened its new office at the Lakaz Seselwa at Mont Fleuri, opposite the entrance to the Seychelles Hospital
As I listen to various views on what our country needs to put in place as far as our democracy is concerned, I am indeed excited at the new ideas which seek to bring about greater transparency, accountability, clean government and above all politics that will focus on issues and not personalities. This is indeed a breath of fresh air and I am convinced that we can achieve all this in the October elections.
Even though the reasons given to have the two elections together may definitely not hold water, but the more I think about it, the more I believe that at the end of the day it will serve the country good. It is in a sense following the saying, ‘when life throws lemons at you, make juice!’ Our country will indeed be making good nutritious juice as we give her a strong government and an effective National Assembly that will guide her through the changes towards a better tomorrow.
As I share certain thoughts that I believe will bring about greater stability and get us moving, let me say that I firmly believe we need to move forward. As our country reconciles itself with its terrible past of abuse, heartbreak, anger, oppression and dictatorship, I also realise that the present generation born in the third Republic or a little before are more interested in the present and their future. A young professional, for whom I have a lot of respect said to me, ‘For my generation the 5th June does not mean anything. We are interested in our future and that of our children.’ Strong words, I must admit.
First of all, I believe it is important for us to have fixed dates for both the Presidential and National Assembly elections on the same day. This will remove the influence of the incumbent party on a decision that the country has to make. After all, the country belongs to the people and not to a political party or an individual. This change will also have to look at the present Constitutional provision that gives the President and the National Assembly the right to dissolve the National Assembly. Our experts can propose the appropriate amendments. We have already eliminated the ‘pas baton’ article for the presidency. In the light of this, maybe we have to relook at a situation where the president dies in office. Do we have fresh elections or does the Vice President take over, as is the case in many big democracies?
Secondly, the influence or abuse by the incumbent President must also be tackled. The recent announcements speak for themselves. From what I gather, the relevant ministries knew about the changes on TV just like members of the public. This morning they did not have answers for members of the public who wanted to know what exactly were being proposed.
On the other hand, the question that needs to be asked is: Is it fair for the incumbent administration to make policy decisions which have deep implications less than three months before elections that have been announced? As a matter of fact, certain countries, like the UK have clear rules that state that this is not permissible less than three months before an election. The reason is very simple: To stop the abuse of state resources by the incumbent in electioneering. Once again, I am sure most of us realise that this is exactly what these two announcements attempted to do last night. What effect will that have on our economy? Someone even told me that it would appear that the economic reason that Mr. Faure gave for dissolving the National Assembly no longer stands as suddenly he has found millions to give away! He even wondered whether the 50 million US dollars had returned to the state coffers!
Giving the country more control over the election dates and setting rules and regulations that will help the country move forward in a manner where the necessary checks and balances can be maintained at all times are most important if we want to have a sturdy democracy and the participation of the people.
Our people want the best for themselves and for our country. Politics need to change. We have to move away from dictatorial control to a liberal democracy that calls for greater responsibility in addressing real issues while at the same time giving our younger generations the possibility of understanding their role and where they fit.
Everyone has a role to play in the creation of the new Seychelles. October is the start of an adventurous journey. Let us all be part of it. Let us make Seychelles, our true motherland for all her children.
