Migrants try to storm ferry after breaking into port of Calais
Migrants try to storm ferry after breaking into port of Calais
Hundreds of migrants are rounded up by police after they scale fences around the port of Calais and try to force their way onto a P&O Ferry
Hundreds of migrants breached security in the port of Calais and tried to storm their way onto a ferry bound for Britain last night.
Around 100 migrants forced a gate and climbed over fences, overwhelming security staff, before trying to run up the main ramp onto the ships.
Ramps to ferries in the port had to be raised and fire hoses used to stop the migrants boarding the ships.
A second attempt to force another entry into the port failed, as 150 migrants gathered around the entrances to the dock were stopped by police.
"Around 100 migrants succeeded in entering the port," port officials confirmed.

Migrants march through French town during noisy ‘rights’ protest
Migrants march through French town during noisy ‘rights’ protest
Charities working with migrants in Calais, France, are being overwhelmed by rising numbers using the town as a base to cross the channel, it has been claimed.
A French volunteer yesterday spoke as dozens of migrants marched through the streets of the French town in a noisy protest demanding human rights protection.
There is rising anger at the increasing number of migrants flocking to Calais which has long been used as a staging post to try to reach the shores of Britain.
